Waited 2.5 months, came in wrong
I waited patiently for 2.5 months for my new White/Gold Lariat super crew 4x4 and it finally came in today. Everything was great until the salesman offered to start the heated seats to warm them up for me (nebraska very cold now). Lone behold, no switches, no heated seats, no memory etc. Woops he said. He wrote up order correctly, he showed me. Susposed to be there. Offered to reorder truck (another 2 months) or install aftermarket heated seats (keep in mind I paid for the Deluxe heated seat package). I took the truck, but decided tonight to call them in the morning and have them reorder the correct truck. I would think they could get Ford to expidite an order. Any Ideas?
I've been around this site for 3-4 months and I am amazed by three things:
1) How many people order trucks vs. dealer stock
2) How many people can't find exactly what they want on a good dealers lot (or don't search enough).
3) How many people have problems or wait for an eternity to get their vehicle once ordered.
Now granted, I have access within a short distance to the dealer that sells more Ford trucks than any other in my state, but this whole "ordering" thing sounds like a major PITA to me.
I went to ford.com, punched in exactly what I wanted and my zip code and found 8 within 12 miles of my house and 17 within 50 miles with the options I wanted - multiple colors.
I went in to the dealer at 9:15 a.m. and was done with the trade in, paperwork, and financing and had my new truck in my garage by 2:35 p.m.
No regrets and no waiting.

unfortunately there will always be mistakes occasionally. they get so many orders im surprised there isnt more mistakes. now what i would do is convince the dealer to let you drive that truck until your correct truck is in. the problem is that it will be warming up by the time your new truck comes in....
blitz: i know it sounds odd that more people dont buy off the lot, sounds very odd to me too. but you must consider that not everyone lives in a city with multiple dealers , or even in an area with a fairly large dealer anywhere near them. in my area i searched for my dream truck and there were 66 found on the lots with all the options i wanted, not all the same colors but 66 with all the same features i want. several with the exact colors i want

Hey, if a person wants to wait for 2-3 months, more power to them.
I've bought enough cars (actually way more than enough
) to know that odds are whatever you want is sitting on a lot or backlot somewhere.
A $350 transit will bring it from New York to L.A. (or vice versa).
The "I ordered, its just mine, all mine" thing I don't understand, but thats okay.
If someone wants to think that the people in K.C. or Virginia or Bavaria put extra love into the vehicle because it "was ordered" I'm not going to rain on their parade.

I live in an area with maybe 15 dealers or more and I have not yet found a dealer that has the exact combo of options/colors I want. It seems what they like to do (dealers) is order all the crap I DON'T want on my truck. Not to say a DVD player is a stupid option, but I just don't want it. Also, they like to equip their stock units with power sliding rear windows (don't want it), captain's chairs (don't want it) and moonroofs (don't want it). If I find one very close to what I want, then the color is wrong. Here's the deal...I have a job...people expect me to do my job correctly and if I don't, I hear about it. I expect other people to their job correctly. The highly paid factory workers, the people accepting the order...etc, etc. There's no reason why they can't get an order right. If it's printed out on paper directly from the computer and it has everything you want on it, that means the order has been properly placed and it's now Ford's job to give you what you pay for. Why even offer an option to order if they will only screw it up anyway? If they screw it up, they should either give you a fast rebuild of what you really want or they should pay to have the factory parts installed after the vehicle arrives (if possible). In my line of business (telecom), if we receive a phone system that doesn't have exactly what we requested, the seller always has to eat the cost of getting what we wanted since it really puts us in a bind, especially if we need to install it right away. I've seen them eat several grand a few times...it's common and an accepted way of doing business. You screw it up, you pay for it. I'm not complaining or giving anyone a hard time. I'm just saying there are reasons why we can't take what's on the lot and if we order something and Ford gets it wrong, there's no excuse for it and Ford needs to make it right. The main reason I'm ordering is because my wife and I agreed on the time I would get the truck (to line up with the payoff of our house), so I figured I may as well order it and get EXACTLY what I want, nothing more, nothing less. I'd much rather take something on the lot if it was exactly what I wanted, because I hate waiting.
How did you check their stock? don't put faith in checking it online and don't think for a chance by going by the lot your seeing what they have. I know when we were looking for my wife's last SUV we couldn't find what we wanted the salesman loaded us in an Escape and took us to a "wharehouse" across town, twice as big as their lot and we found what we wanted there. They can also do a locate and find what you want and have it transported in, all these poor people waiting for one to be built is just beyond me, plus I couldn't wait.
I got D plan pricing at my dealership so I had to buy from him. During an 8 week period I found 3 trucks in Southern California that had the options I wanted and they were 3 different colors. None of the dealerships wanted to do a dealer swap. In the end, ordering the truck got it here faster than a dealer swap did.

Just my 2 cents, but I would check the order that the dealer claimed to fill out. Not saying its his/her fault but its a simpler answer.
Also as for finding the truck in stock... I tried the dealer search option and sometimes its accurate but it doesn't update as fast as vehicles are sometimes sold. I live where there are 3 dealers and about 2 hours from Atlanta which has no telling how many dealers. I couldn't find the exact truck I wanted and didn't feel like I should settle when spending this kind of money. Also the dealer wanted 500 over invoice for an in stock truck or dealer transfer and offered to sell for invoice if I ordered. I haven't received it yet, but I am in no hurry since my trade will be the same no matter how long I have to wait. Plus the dealer gave me the option to try and sell it before the new one comes in. The way I see it its a win win for me.

I'm from Omaha also. I was going to order a truck until I heard that I had to wait 13 weeks. I decided to have the dealership find me one instead. They found the truck with everything I wanted in Denver. So instead of a 13 week wait, I just had to buy a truck with 600 miles on it since they drove it here all the way from Denver. After seeing all of the perils people go through to get their truck ordered, those 600 miles don't seem as big of a loss as I thought they were.
nice choice Matty, love the white w/arizona beige lariat.
I'm with F150lariat, Im not going to pay for extra's I dont want Im right by the largest dealers in the state and they dont have exactly what I want either, and stick to your guns, you gotta have the heated seats!!!

Mattythreeputt, I assume the 'deluxe heated seat package' is comprised of just heated seats?
If that is the case, have the dealer find your seat color, and do a swap, it would just be some bolts and plugging in a module right?
But NO aftermarket crap.
What do they do on a warranty replacement of a damaged seat?
At worse have him order your seat from the Ford OEM supplier, it's better than waiting two months for a whole truck.
Even if you have to wait two months for the seats, that's two months of worry free farting in the truck.
As far as ordering a truck goes, only an idiot would order when the truck he was ordering was already available. If it ain't available, it ain't available. 65 trim lines and two pages of options sometimes means, do you want to settle or not.
If the truck you envisioned was available then lucky you.

Like I said, my problem is I can never find the exact combo I want with the right colors. Here's what I'm ordering:
2004 F-150 LARIAT, SUPER CAB, 4x4, 6 1/2' BED
All Standard equipment, plus:
- Two-Tone paint - Black w/Arizona Beige paint, w/Tan leather interior
- Reverse sensing system
- Trailer tow package
- Black platform running boards
- 35.7 gallon fuel tank
- 3.73 Limited slip axle
I absolutely want every one of those options. I don't want the sliding rear window because you can't get a window defroster with that, and I don't care for the sliding window anyway. I don't want the moonroof because you can't get the rail system with that. I don't want the floor console because it's just taking up room. It looks good, but I prefer to have the extra space. The 'bench seats' are practically the exact same seat as the 'captain's chairs'. Check them out on the lot, you'll see...not much difference at all. I wouldn't even call it a bench seat since it has 2 distinct seats that move separate from the other. I absolutely want black with beige. Many dealers have some variation of what I want, but not close enough. I've waited long enough for this purchase that I want it like I want it and that's that...lol I may as well get exactly what I want since I've sacrificed so long before a major purchase. My house is paid off in one more payment (and I'm 34) and this is my reward. No other debt to speak of...truck will be it. So this is why it's important to me. I want to be completely satisfied with it and not drie away thinking..."crap, I sure wish I had waited to get x, y or z, it wouldn't have killed me" Maybe if I go 8 weeks and the order is going nowhere, I will then be open for a little change to my plan and take something the dealer can find for me already built. We'll see. Anyway, if someone wants to wait, go for it...hope you have a little patience. But if you do wait and Ford screws up your order, it's not your fault. By the way, I made sure I got a printout of my order from the salesman to be sure it was exactly as I asked. It was

Took my dealer one day to check other dealers stock to find my truck ,,,although it had two items i wouldn`t have `ordered`, i have found myself using and liking them,,,,power pedals/6 cd ,,,,colors weren`t too important,,,just told him colors i did not want,,,,,,had it 6 days later!!! no big wait,,,love it!!!!FX4 with everything but heated seats/audiophile
Dealer seemed pissed, until i reminded him who's fault it was in the first place. I am not in any hurry for the truck. not only would i be out heated seats, but memory and pwr pass seat also. Susposedly, he is getting Ford to hurry one though for me. Hope that's not the same as sending back and undercooked steak at Sizzler.
