rattling/buzzing in the dashboard
rattling/buzzing in the dashboard
Has anyone else noticed a rattling/buzzing coming from the passenger side dashboard? It's most noticable when the vehicle is cold and stopped with the truck in drive. If I slip the gear shift into neutral, it goes away. After the truck warms up, it goes away. With the radio on, it isn't audible. I asked my son to try to pinpoint it when he was sitting in the front seat and he thought it was coming from the right side air vent. My personal theory is that it is coming from the airbag mechanism but I haven't been able to sit on the passenger side when the conditions are right to track it down. I'll be due for my first oil change in about three weeks and I'll be asking the dealer to check it out.

I had the same problem in the cold. It was coming from OUTSIDE and was from the area of the windshield that is in contact with the plack plastic cowling at the lower right area of the windshield. If you look close you can see they touch and I would imagine with the cold they get a little tight. It would go away with the defroster on........so I banged on it a little and put a little silcone spray in the area and no more rattle. Give it a try.

I also had a problem with a rattle on the passenger-side dash.
It's tough to track down an intermittent rattle and after a while it becomes very irritating. Anyway, I eventually concluded the rattle was coming from the glove compartment. So, after removing and replacing the glove compartment's contents (no change), I simply put downward pressure on the open glove compartment door with my right hand as I was driving (it helps to have long arms) and the rattle stopped, but came back when I removed the pressure. Then I pushed hard laterally against the side of the open glove compartment door (still sitting in the driver's seat) and closed it. That did it. I have not had any recurrence of the rattle problem (over the last approximate 1,000 miles) even though I have since opened and closed the glove compartment door several times. I know it sounds crazy (and I still worry a little bit about a recurrence) but at least for now the dashboard rattle problem has been solved for me.
