Retrax owners , help.
The Retrax looks great, thanks guys.
I need to put a topper on my truck during the Fall hunting season, the Retrax looks to have minimal affect on the side rails, but is the canister on the new model going to be in the way on the front of the bed rail where the topper rests?
If so, how long would it take to uninstall the canister and leave the side rails.

JMorri,
The Retrax canister fits under the side rails and gets attached to the rails before being fitted on the truck...so the rails would need to come off with the canister unit. If you needed to remove everything, it could be done it a few minutes (just 4 clamps to loosen). The issue would be making sure you could store the canister and rails where they wouldn't get damaged.
Here is a close up pic of the canister on my truck. It sits below the side rails and is only 1/2" above the front rail.
I hope this helps.

Thanks John,
I'm thinking a guy could apply the foam rubber padding on the bottom of the topper edges in the right way (2" on the outermost area and a 1/2" on the inside edge that would compact down when topper in place and will rest on the Retrax track.
Then, open the Retrax and use big C clamps that go around the existing tracks when I put the topper on.
What do you think?

I agree, some of them have that rubber piece that hangs over the tailgate a bit, I think mine has that. It's out at the lake lot now so I can't check, but there should be a way to have a flap added or whatever if needed.
Thanks
Thanks
