One last thing to touch on with this issue...

I installed mine this morning that I got from Ford. It is 'sandwiched' between the hood and the grill, however, you can adjust it frontwards and backwards. Basically, you can increase or decrease the gap between the shield and the hood. I would imagine the further away from the hood that it is, the more vibration you would see. Just a thought.

I put mine on and had it up against the hood as close as possible. I took the truck out and opened her up to about 95. No vibration.

Any color as long as it is smoke !! Thats what I figured , but I figured if there were other colors available some one on here would know about it . Cause there sure seems to be lots of good info on this web site !!! My lariat is all white and I thouhgt I would like to try a clear or maybe a clear painted white . I just thought i'd like to do one or the other and not have the hood shake it self off the truck . Anybody got a white Lariat with the smoke on it that has pics of it installed ??
Thanks for the info !!

I had a '97 ford with a clear Lund shield painted white. Within 2 years the shield turned a yellowish color. Went to a low profile smoke and was very happy with it.

As far as hood shake, there is a very minor amount on mine at 80+ mph. Unless there is a 20+ mph head wind, then its more pronounced especially when passing through the turbulence of a large vehicle when you go by. Mine is the Ford low profile.

I am going to bring this up one more time.

Last week we got about 4" of snow here (we get a 'good' snow once or twice a year and all hell breaks loose). I didn't brush the snow off of the hood before I started driving. I got out on the interstate and got up to about 50 before the hood started to shake. I would guesstimate that there was about 3 or 4 inches of snow stacked up on the hood. I believe the hood shook because the snow through off the aerodynamics of the hood/front end. It was shaking REALLY bad. I literally thought the damn thing was going to fly off. I stopped, scraped off the snow, got back to driving and got up to 90+ and no shaking.

I said that to reiterate this...those of you that have the bugshields and the hood shake might want to take a look to see if you can loosen the bolts and slide the deflector towards the truck more. I think that if it sticks too far out frontwards, it may cause the air to do some funky things and lift up on the back of the hood.

I have the hood shake but no bug deflector. It's not bad though, I guess I can live with it as long as there are no residual effects down the road. You really have to look for it to see it.

If it is your hood that shakes and not the shield? Try increasing the latch preload on the hood by screwing up the bumpers that support the front of the hood a couple of turns this should minimize the shake. If you end up with your hood over flush to the fender then you may need to unscrew the two bolts that attach the hood latch to the front center post in front of the radiator. The hood latch has over sized holes you can drop it down a mm or two to also increase the preload of the hood with out affecting fender flushness. If you mess with the latch make sure you keep it center when you lower it otherwise you may push the hood to the right or left and get a big margin on one side and a tight one one the other
