Unhappy Dealer Warranty service required?

Hi guys Question... Warranty service required? what exactly are the terms required by ford as far as correct maintenance re: oil are we required to have a qualified service center such as Ford Dealer, Tune masters or Jiffy Lube etc. do the work or is keeping good documented records and receipts sufficient... thanks GG

I would appreciate someone that works for Ford that really knows can we do our own Oil and have them do the rest?

During a warranty period I keep receipts for any oil change related purchases I make. If I buy six qts of oil at Autozone, I write on the the receipt that this is for an oil change on the F-150 on such and such a date. Same with the filter.

This should be all the documentation you would need.

Agreed. It can be done at Ford, elsewhere, or by you. If a problem occurs, you should keep records. That's it; just that simple. Make sure that you use oil that meets owner's manual specs.

the dealer i bought my truck from offers a LIFETIME powertrane warranty on all new vehicles but the only requirement is you must have all your maintenance done there...this includes all your oil changes at 5k miles and whatever else is due at that time.....does this sound like a good deal or will they make more money this way??..guess its only fair to wanna do all the service's on the truck if its a lifetime warranty....

A large body of case law has arisen nationally on this topic as a result of litigation. The above posts are correct...keep records. I maintain a record as a maintenance file on my computer re: date, brands, mileage, etc. In a dispute, Ford must prove fault/error AND relevancy of the failure to the fault. For example, if your engine blows using 5W30 instead of the recommended 5W20, it would require the manufacturer to prove that the higher viscosity oil caused the failure. That's not likely...your defense would be that the 5W20 is an issue related to CAFE (gas mileage), not lubrication adequacy. In earlier actual such cases, the manufacturer has lost...no litigation would even move forward today based on such case law.

By all means if you want to do it yourself do it yourself, but and this is a big but ( no pun intended) , keep records of everything including the reciepts, as long as you can prove you have done the required maintenance they cannot hold you responsible.
