I hear a vibration/humming sound coming from the steering wheel cowl or in that vicinity, maybe behind or below the dash.e: as400pro

In an earlier thread I stated I had a similar sound. I stopped Sat. and had my service advisor listen to it. He heard it also. I'm making an appointment today to have it looked at this Thurs. I'll let you know what they find.

The dealer located the noise. It was the air intake assembly. The nozzle end which attaches to the fender well has an o-ring which dampens the vibration from the nozzle. Mine was missing so they replaced it. No more vibration. This might be the problem you and TUFF FORD are experiencing. BTW mine has the 5.4L. Good luck to you.

Thank you TCF for posting the information.
I will print it out and take it to the dealer with me.
I may stop by there tomorrow without an appointment just to let them hear the vibration sound.
After listening to it a few more times since my original post I do believe that something behind the firewall is the initial cause and is causing the virbration to affect the area below/behind the dash in the steering column vicinity. Since the sound is only heard once per trip it has made it more difficult to trace.

I went out and looked at the nozzle end where it attaches to the fender well and there is an o-ring but it wasn't snapped into the fender well, it was loose, so I inserted it the best I could, the top tab won't snap in but the bottom and sides are inserted, and I have not heard the vibration since (knock on wood).
If the vibration doesn't come back I will wait until my first scheduled service and mention it to the service advisor and show him how the o-ring doesn't fit well and let them correct it at that time.
Thank you tcf!

I can't wait to get down to my truck to find out if this fixes it. I have been listening and thought it was coming from behind the steering column or in the dash. This has GOT to be it!

I'll let yall know.

I was just wondering how you made out with the vibration noise. Since the dealer fixed mine I haven't heard any noises.

It has been about a week and a half since I plugged the loose air intake tube O-ring into the fender well and I have not heard the vibration.
I am assuming the loose air intake tube was causing it.
Thank you for the information that led me to discover the cause of the vibration.
If it does come back I will re-post.
