BugShield

I know this has been posted before, but that was before I had a chance to install my BugShield II.

I notice that the hood vibration is minimal in light traffic and calm winds. However, when follwing a semi or on a windy day the hood vibrates excessively. Pretty much the same thing as in previous posts.
It seems that the hood is trying to lift up from the end nearest the windshield. I was wondering if anyone esle has noticed the following: With the hood raised, pull down as if closing hood, I notice alot of flex in the area of the hood where the struts are mounted. Could this be what is causing the vibration as the wind wraps back around the windshield and down to the hood?

I have a Stampede bug shield on mine. I noticed that there was alot of shaking on my hood also, but before the bug shield installation. Seems to be no worse or better since I installed the bug shield, even grabbed the hood from the back when I first got it to see if it were loose.

I had the dealer install the Ford bugshield with the 150 emblem and I have not noticed any vibration.

Did anyone install their own? I have one I need to install and after reading the instructions it looks like the grill has to be removed, shield installed and then grill put back on so that the bug shield is between the grill and the hood. I would think it would leave a gap and that could cause some vibration. Looks strange so I have been holding off installing it.

I installed my own. It did not leave a gap as the shield is sandwiched between the grill and hood tightly. The vibration is caused by the air flow over the hood. It lifts the back of the hood.

Yes, the grill has to be removed for the bug sheild installation. It is "sandwiched" in between the grill and the hood.

Thanks! Installed it last night, had it up to 80MPH this morning and no vibration. It was a bit different and longer install than past bug shields though. Usually just drill a few holes and stick a few plugs in, this was about a half hour job. Nothing difficult it just took longer than expected.

Hammer:

Do you know which series of Stampede you have? 100, 200, or 300?

I purchased 300 series (high profile) and I pulled it off due to the problems it was causing. Stampede has recognized the problem and said that the 100 series (low profile) does not produce the problems.

I'm currently waiting for the local dealer to get the 100 series in, as they are backordered due to the problems.

Just letting you know that they have recognized the problem, and are swapping out the high profile for low.

Bug Shield Update

Just replaced my LUND Interceptor with a LUND Avenger which is a much lower profile.....along the lines of the Ford shield. No more hood shake and no more mirror wobble. This all courtesy of Ultimate Truck in Milw.

Thanks for the replys. I am still curious about the hood mounts. Seems like the vibration is occuring with alot of different brands of bug shields. This may be a Ford issue instead of bug shield manufacturer.

Could some of you guys raise your hood, and check the flex at the strut mounts as pull down to close it?
