Couldn't find info about this problem...

I searched the forums but didn't see this specific problem described.
When I leave work the truck has been outside all day.
At the first traffic light I come to, maybe a 1/4 mile away, and stop, I hear a vibration/humming sound coming from the steering wheel cowl or in that vicinity, maybe behind or below the dash.
If I take my foot off the brake the sound lowers and then disappears after I start rolling. Never happens again on that trip home, only at that first red light.
The sound does not occur in the mornings and the truck sits in my garage at night (barely fits). The first traffic light in the morning is about a mile from the house but I do have 2 stop signs in the morning but I usually don't have to stay stopped but a second as it is usually 5:15 am.
I am thinking it may have to do with the truck sitting out in the cold during the day although yesterday the temp was in the mid 50's when I left work and the sound did occur.

Any ideas?
I will mention to the service advisor when I go in for my first service (free) or sooner if it gets worse. I only have 550 miles on the truck.

It has an automatic transmission with the shifter on the column.

Thank you.

Is it anything like this?...

Where did you buy your truck? I got mine from Mall of Georgia Ford. When did you pick it up? Do you know the build date?

:beers:

Its not possibly your ABS malfunctioning is it?

I saw that thread but I think it is coming from the steering wheel area. It may be some kind of vacumn but again I only hear that one time per day and you can feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel, but the noise is more noticed than the vibration. Once I start rolling it goes away.

I bought mine at Arrington and Blount in Lawrenceville since I am closer to them and have always had good service with them in the past. I bought it December 27th, build date is 11/03. It had just arrived at the lot, they didn't yet have it in the computer, the salesman had to go somewhere out back to get the key.

I hope not. It sounds like it is further down the steering wheel but sound can play tricks on you. I tend to think it is in the cowl area or behind that.
I'll try to get more clues the next time it happens, I'll put the transmission in park and/or neutral and see if it dissipates. So far I know that lifting my foot off the brake seems to calm it down but rolling forward will probably make the driver ahead of me nervous.

Does the sound and vibration go away after a few miles and after the truck gets warmed up?

It only occurs when I stop at the first traffic light after leaving work around 2:00pm. No odd sound before stopping at the light and no odd sound after I take my foot off the break and start rolling forward. No odd sound at the next traffic light. So it does seem it has to do with something warming up although I don't hear it in the mornings but the first traffic light is further away and whatever is needing to "warm up" must have done so by the time I get to it.

It's strange.
It will be a trick to recreate the sound for the service advisor at the dealership when the time comes.

Sounds like the power steering pump to me...... I've had several trucks in the past (including my new one) that occasionally.... when it is cold outside... makes a sound similar to the vibrating sound of a compressor used for an air suspension system. Just after a few miles it goes away.

In an earlier thread I stated I had a similar sound. I stopped Sat. and had my service advisor listen to it. He heard it also. I'm making an appointment today to have it looked at this Thurs. I'll let you know what they find.

Thanks tcf, It will be good to know what you find out so I can make sure my service department is on the right track when I take it to them.
