1st & 2nd damage
1st & 2nd damage
At 38 miles, three door dings from parking lot. Not dented but gounged to bare metal.
Two hours later (49miles), at son's ballgame I wised up and parked far way along road. Came out after game, and found my drivers side mirror pushed forward. Yep, someone driving past did not clear and hit my mirror. Didn't break it but scratched up the black housing.
I not leaving the house again!

thanks guys, The ironic thing is that I also am extremely careful about selecting a parking spot. Sometimes after parking and walking away a litle bit I'll even go back and move it to an even safer spot.
This is really eating at me. I drove my 98 f150 five years without a single ding because I was super careful with parking. Now in the first couple days, look whats happened to my 04.
ps. posting about it has helped release my pain

blg615,
Feelin' for ya. Found my first chuck missing out of the front bumper a few weeks ago. However, a far away parking spot does NOT guarantee no door dings. X-mas Eve at the local mall, I witnessed a 30 U-haul type rental truck plow into the side of a very new Jeep Cherokee while attempting to back up. He couldn't pull straight out due to other cars having parked after him in spots directly across. Now mind you, this was at the END of the parking lot. Obviously the truck could not park closer but the Jeep could have. (The A-hole in the rental truck took off. I cut into traffic to go after him since EVERYONE else who witnessed this, just drove off. Grayflare's right on the nuts, people don't give a crap about other people's property. Unfortunately, the truck had NO plates. )

I feel for ya man,,Heres my story, had a 99 F150 for 3 years without a nick, ding or scratch. I have y 04 FX4 for 2 months now and someone I dont know hit my rear PAINTED bumper and put a nick in it, someone in my family didnt shut the back door all the way (its a SCAB) before closing the front door and put a small chip in the top edge of the door and then my stupid self...I was hauling some junk off to the dump and while trying to lift up a big metal can and place it carefully in th bed, I came up short and hit the back just above the tail light, yet another paint chip and a fw small scratches. Althought this is all minor that I will have fixed real soon, It drives me nuts. Just though my story might help you feel a little better
Seems like whenever you get a new truck you're almost guaranteed to have something unfortunate happen right off the bat. Some ******* keys your door, backs into you, drops a f'n spray paint can on the road in front of you whatever.....
I'm also super careful about avoiding potential ding parking spots, so I was very upset to find two dings that appear to be factory defects. The truck was covered with salt and slush for the first week I owned it so I didn't get a chance to look it over very well and I notice the manual states that you must report body damage within the first week. I'm not sure I'd want to trust a body shop to match-up the drk torr. red met anyway. I have to say between the dings and the orange peel paint, this is the worst new vehicle finish I've ever experienced.
dings
I also always park out in the hills. but you know there is always that moron with an old pile of caca that parks so close to you you have to get in the passenger door. I personally would like to teach them a lesson. but instead i made up some cards that say
Thankyou for parking so close next time would you leave a damn can opener so I can get my truck out. And leave it under there windshield wiper blade. It's better than hurting someone right???
