Power to Weight Ratio....!!!
Power to Weight Ratio....!!!
The new FX4 xcab styleside, according to fords website is 6400lbs..... with 300HP, thats 21lbs for every horsepower.
My car (V6 Cougar) is about 3000lbs, heavy for a car, but has 170HP, thats 17lbs for every horsepower.
Anyway, i know its no comparison, but thats one real easy way to judge how well a vehicle will perform for you.
I would like to know what the power to weight ratio is for comparative trucks.
Also, is the flareside trucks box made of fiberglass? if so, how much do an xcab flareside fx4 weigh?

Interesting...but to be truly accurate you would have to make that comparison with the hp measured at the wheels instead of PTO HP.
I think the outer skin of the flareside box is some type of composite...probably not fiberglass. The rest of it is metal so any weight savings would be limited.

i am positive the sides of the screw bed are SMC or sheet molding compound. very tough stuff and fairly light. chevy c5's are made of them, and chevy stole the idea from jet ski hulls, which have been smc since the mid 90's. ford uses smc for mustang hoods since 99 (and trunks too)
until all the mfgrs use a unified dyno, all the hp and tq numbers are a shot in the dark. remember the 60's? 400 hp, my ***, more like 250 if they are lucky.....reworked heads, ringer motors....

I do believe you were looking at the gvwr rating. that is not the weight of the pickup. but the weight of the pickup plus the maximum payload it can carry. the actual weight of the truck is arround 5500 lbs. that calculates out to 18.3 lbs per horsepower. still not that impressive a number. I agree after owning my truck for almost 4 months that it could use more horsepower I think 350 would be about right. also more important than horsepower is torque some more of that would be great too. I think in the future I will do a few mods to ad a little horspower and torque. I do believe if you did thos same calculations on torque you would find the truck would do better. it would be interesting to see that info too.

Not like it matters, just helping to straighten out the facts

Ford Truck Specifications
u need to click on "compare models"
blitzkrieg here is the link that shows the weight of the FX4 Scab and it states that the curb weight is 6500lbs!!!! the GVWR is 7200lbs, almost as bad as a brinks armoured truck. Unless the trucks are larger in canada, which is obsurde, or a misprint, these trucks are mammoth.
A Dodge Ram, SLT LWB 4x4 with a Hemi weighs 5500lbs, thats a power to weight ratio of 16lbs per horsepower with the 345hp engine.
A Chev Silverado, Xcab SWB 4x4 with 5.3 Vortec weighs 4900lbs, thats a power to weight ratio of 16.6lbs per horsepower with a 295hp Vortec engine.
I took a bit of time researching this, i couldn't get the weights for the Titan or Tundra.

That whole site is outdated. Check some of the standard options.
Site needs an update bad.
I also think a cougar weighs more than 3000 lbs. More like 3700.
