I can relate to the frustration in this thread. I took my truck in for a vibration in the drivetrain from 30 to 55 mph. I told the service dept 3 times that it wasn't a wheel issue as the truck was smooth as glass over 60 and the vibration went away as soon as I took my foot off the gas. After a day in the shop, they call to tell me they balanced the tires and it is fixed. Well, the 30 to 55 mph vibe is still there, and now I get the intermittent steering wheel quiver at about 65 as well. I took the truck to a different dealer, and they believe the 30-55 vibe is the faulty rear differential, and will have to rebalance the tires for the "repair" made at the other dealer. We'll see how they do.

Every time I'd get a new set of tires I'd have to have them balanced two or three times before it was right.
I agree with that statement. When I replaced the tires on the last truck I owned (2000 F-150 XLT 4X4) I had to rebalance the tires shortly after they were installed. I was told by the tech that sometimes their balancing machines go out of calibration thereby not balancing the tires correctly.

It's nice that most tires shops offer free balancing for the life of the tire. i know Costco does. the problem with Costco is that they will only install factory recommended sizes. not the place to go for anything other than stock sizes.

here's a question about all the rebalancing to fix the vibrations. my truck was out of alignment and out of balance when i got it. the dealer's service dept balanced and aligned and everything is all good. in all of that i never had a shudder, shimmy, nibble, or vibration (or anything else with another name). If the explanation offered above is correct, I would expect that it would have caused me some problems along the way. i'm not disputing the solutions, but just wondering why i didn't have problems. i guess the steering really is sensitive.

I think you are on to something here. Most of the people I've seen over the last few months have been able to fix any wobbles they experience with wheel balancing and/or alignment checks. Your problem sounds like an extreme case since your wheels were soooo out of spec. I think I remember a post somewhere in here where a dealer actually replaced somebody's tires as well thinking that they might be causing a problem.

It's time to write a letter to the FoMoCo and CC your dealer laying out your complaint and ask to be contacted by a customer service manager (not the dealer, you're done with them). I would also light a fire under somebody's *** by contacting the BBB. I wouldn't waste time giving the dealer more chances to screw with you! Don't worry, they'll fix it. It's probably like bikelover said above, you just need to find a tech who know his *** from a hole in the ground and is willing to spend a few hours figuring out what the problem is.

good luck
I have contacted FCC and filed a formal complaint & also filed a complaint with BBB. I have an appointment with A Ford Field Tech on the 16th of January 1:00 p.m. at another dealership. I will keep you all posted to what happens thanks for all the info, support & help. My offer still stands for anyone in Northeast NJ with the same truck as mine to take it for a ride to see what I’m talking about & if there truck acts the same.

Question #2
Have you gone around a turn hit a pot hole or bump? I have and it feels like I'm going to lose controll of the truck. I know it sounds crazy but the it feels like the front tires lose contact with the road and a very bad vibration carries through the truck. This is why I said my 03 Lariat SC 4x4 drove better then the 04. This truck has some type of problem.
