Rertrax owners...
hi all. Well I finally got the truck! (no more VIN checks
)
I searched and looks like everyone likes their Retrax - I have 2 questions I couldn't find though and would like to ask you all for your input.
1 - does the Retrax rattle at all? My concern is rattling during normal driving and over bumps?
2 - will it close with the bed extender in the bed?
Thanks all and apologies if this was covered somewhere and I missed it...

CM1st150,
Although I don't have mine yet, I believe I know the answers. I researched every site on the web and everyone seems to be really happy with the Retrax. In my research, I remember these 2 exact questions being answered. No, it does not rattle in normal driving, and it will close with the bed extender in the bed. Maybe someone will provide first hand knowledge. Or I will try to remember to get back with you when mine arrives.

I've had a Retrax installed on my '04 for nearly 2 months.
There hasn't been any rattle and the bed extender works fine with it.
I've got a SCrew, so I can't answer the question about the stake holes. I imagine there would be partial coverage by the Retrax rail, especially for the holes at the rear of the bed. If no one is able to answer your question soon, try calling/e-mailing Retrax direct. They've been very helpful with any questions I had.
There have been a lot of threads about the Retrax, so if you're considering one, you should do a forum search for "Retrax" and you'll probably get more info. than you want.
Good luck. I've got a couple pics of my Retrax in my Mods/Accessories album.

I paid 50 dollars for installation.
I am completely satisfied with the cover now. It does not rattle, it opens OK in cold weather fine ( I broke the key once though ), and the service/folllow ups are excellent. They sent me new set of the key and the locks right away when I broke it.
I have put some graphite in the key hole, and keeping a hand towl with me in a cold day so I can rub off the ice and it opens just fine, no problemo.

Well, one problem with my FX4. It looks so good so my neighbor got the exact same truck/same color. Oh, well...

Retrax says that anyone with basic tools can install it themselves. in fact, they urge you to install it yourself because they believe it is really really simple. i can't say either way since i don't own one yet, but when you talk to a rep on the phone they felt very strongly that their prodcut does not require professional installation. 50 bucks ain't bad though to save the time and effort if you just don't feel like doing it.
BrewMaster is is dead right on this one.
The Retrax isn't difficult to install. It goes a little slow trying to follow the directions step by step and making sure everything is in order, but overall I'd say it is low on the difficulty scale.
The side rail gets attached to the canister on the ground, then the whole unit gets placed on the truck, so you need someone to help with that.
It's also good to do the install yourself so that if you need to make any adjustments, or remove it, you know what you are doing.
I'd gladly take $50 to install a Retrax for someone - easy money.
