I'll have to check mine again. I did it once and it came in at 13.88. That was with about 2,500 miles on the vehicle.

# date
###.# miles (total miles)
##.## dollars (total dollars)
##.### gallons (total gallons)
##.### mpg ([total miles-130 miles] / [total gallons])

# 03jan04
401.6 miles (3221.0)
33.50 dollars (243.00)
22.652 gallons (177.823)
17.729 mpg (17.383)

I keep track of every maintenance/addition/fill-up for my truck, and at my most recent fill-up I had gotten 17.729 MPG which puts me at 17.383 overall with me 5.4 Super/6.5'/2wd

Steve,
While most people calculate fuel mileage as # of miles since last fill-up divided by # of gallons required for current fill-up, doesn't Ownersite use a different formula? I tried a trial membership and wondered about that.

Thanks,
John

JohnAndDar, the way we calculate from one record to another is in the manner you described, providing that the current entry is a fill-up. (if it were not a fillup, there would be no way of accurately calculating it) I don't know of any other way to calculate it. We also provide a fuel usage calculation over the period it is being tracked in Ownersite.com, which may have led to some confusion because we provide a description of how mpg is calculated.

vocabulaic, I actually wrote Ownersite.com using edlin. Who needs those fancy gui's?

Thanks Steve. You're right, I went back to Ownersite.com and checked...it was the fuel usage calculation over period I was thinking of. I must have missed the explanation that is at the site before. Anyhow, I renewed from my expired trial subscription to the "Plus Plan" Now I've just got to make some time to get my vehicle records entered.

Thanks, John! I don't want to drive this thread too far off-topic, but just in case you missed it, there is now a fuel record "import" feature in Ownersite.com, so you don't necessarily have to re-key the information.
