Ummm, that Titan actually isn't a bad truck at all.
I lied. My truck is awesome and I am proud to buy Ford. Nissan has raised the stakes, so, you guys that are waiting to buy an F150 in 2005 are going to benefit from the few adjustments needed to put Nissan down.
i like the ford the best, but the titan is a great value with that engine, tranny, and factory bedliner. it might be a good choice for someone seeking a lighter duty truck for on-road and non-towing use.the ford is heftier though, with the 9.75" axles and heavier springs, and stouter frame.the ford is also # 1 in crash safety.

I live in Nebraska but I'm not from here, I'm from South Korea actually. I'm also not a fan of Nebraska football so I could give a damn about Frank Solich getting fired. How about you take the time to learn how to respect others and respect will be earned by yourself. I on the other hand refuse to stoop to your level of making assumptions and disrespecting the people from where you live. All in all, I'm just telling you to grow up.
When I decided to get into the new '04 F-150, I never exactly shopped around...Well after getting on this site to get more info on my '04 I see many of you have dissed on the Titan. Well I had to go see why all of you have compared our trucks so much to it. I decided that maybe I didn't shop around enough. I'm very impressed with the standard features, even the LE which has way more standard features is still over $3,000 less than the base price of the FX4, which is the model I purchased. I gone ahead and test drove it. The acceleration is way faster, it even brings thrills to me that I miss from my Lightning, of course not that many thrills, nothing brings more thrills than a Lightning. My point is that even after $2 billion spent in R&D, Ford still fell short a bit. This doesn't mean that I'm going to go run out and trade in my '04. It just means that next time I purchase a vehicle, I'll shop with a more open mind,
Ok, I've read your post once again and even pasted part of it above. Perhaps you should re-read it, especially that which I have put into bold, as I believe my conclusions can be deemed reasonable. As for my posts and what I like or dislike you truly have no clue as you are busy being short sighted while feeling defensive. Try to remember that you can only read words, not intent or things like sarcasm or gray humor. My suggestion to you is to lighten up, don't be so defensive, and learn to take criticism for your posted public comments. Oh and in case you missed it the F150 won TOTY today so I guess (as a whole) most of "the people in the know" felt that after $2 billion spent, Ford did not fall short as you suggest. What did fall was your status. After all someone with such a prestigious title as President of FordBoyZ Car and Truck Club should actually know what he or she is talking about.
Good luck friend.
sithor,
I can't believe you let the Lightning go. I saw you a couple of weeks ago on Maple. I had a 2002 True Blue Lightning, but have also sold it in the past year. I looked at both the 04' F150 and Titan this weekend. I can say that I do like the looks of the Titan, the options and price. The only two differences that I had were the room in the F150 driver's seat is vast and the automatic sliding rear window in the crewcabs. The Titamn was a little snug for us larger guys and not having to reach all the way back to open the rear window, is a big plus.
What model and color did you get? How did it do over the past couple of days in the snow?
skiultr,
I saw nothing about sithor's comments. He was wondering what the reason was for bashing the Titan. He did not say anything bad about the F150, it was to be used as information only. You rcomments on Truck of the Year are of no use, as the Titan was named "2004 Pickup Truck of the Year" by Four Wheeler Magazine. You also say to lighten up and don't be defensive about the posts, since he cannot read the "intent" of words. So if that is true, how is anyone to know exactly what you meant by "farm-boy". The comment about Frank Solich means nothing to us, as 90% of the state is not backing Steve Pederson or his decisions.
I still love the F150 and will probably make my purchase in August or September, but we all need to have options to fill different needs and tastes.

sithor,
sorry I was an idiot. When I was typing my reply, I could not see your signature. Don't need to let me know about the color or model. I can finally read. Where did you buy the truck? We looked at almost the exact same thing on the floor of Markel Ford. Loved it and the Blaze Yellow!

the Titan is not a bad truck at all.
Large, powerful, tons of payload, all of the amenities...
The only thing is they used the previous F150 as a benchmark, not the new 2004 Ford.
The Titan is a nice truck. A little ugly, but still a nice truck.
Ford just outdid them in almost every area.

Yeah sarge, I'm so depressed to let go of my Lightning, but in July I'm moving to Houston, TX for school so I had to cut a large corner in my budget which was the Lightning. I mean I couldn't stop spending money on mods and I got sick of the insurance premiums. I sold almost all of my mods on NLOC so at least I now have some money to play with on this new truck. I was regretting the trade until I picked up my new truck on Saturday. I mean just having that mid-console shifter and the moonroof made me smile from ear to ear. I also love the way it handles in the snow. The dealership let me borrow an '04 Supercrew for 3 days until my truck got here from Denver. I must say the FX4 rides a little rougher than the Lariat, but it's also meant for off-roading.
Thanks to the 1.9% financing I was able to save $100 a month on my truck payment even though I'm getting into a truck that costs $6,000 more. If you're intersted, I've got an awesome salesman that's a friend of mine at Lithia. I don't like Lithia themselves, but I like his customer service. I'll even hook you up with X-plan if you need it.
As for skiultr or whatever, he just needs to learn that we're from Omaha, which isn't farm country. I've been to Greenville as my ex lives there right now, and Omaha is much bigger. So he needs to realize who's the farm boy. I'm sure he'll understand one day what respect means in one way or another. For right now, he just has to live with himself.
By the way, you probably saw me on Maple cause I work at the Jensen Tire on 156th and Maple. Why did you sell your True Blue?

hotsithor,
Thanks for the reply. I would greatly appreciate the pin and would love to talk with Lithia.
The L was traded in on an Infiniti FX35. The wife really wanted to get rid of our 2001 Monte SS and we decided to go to one car since we worked together, but now she has a new job and I need a vehicle. Here is my home email mikesargent@***.net.
Stay warm in this wonderful weather!

I wrote an article a while back about the Titan after a test drive. Yes...it is not a bad riding truck....The main problem I have with it is it is ugly. We were driving down to Disney this weekend and my wife saw the new Titan...and said...what the he!! is that...That is the ugliest thing I believe I have ever seen. She is not one to state her opinion.

Careful there skiultr. Just because your mommy lets you watch espn doesn't mean you can start pretending to know sh*t about football. I’m not here to get in a fight but next time you want to talk about sports, know wtf your talking about. Oh yeah, calling someone a “Farm Boy”, wow, you sure are original. Water-skiing boy!! gay...
Man, you done-done it now. You said you like another truck as much as you like the Ford. Get your asbestos drawers out buddy, they're gonna flame you big time....
Well, after my vacation, I finally went and did it. I test drove the 2004 F-150 SuperCrew Lariat and I got right out of it, and test drove a silver Titan LE Crewcab. I've got to tell you, I think the Titan is bigger on the inside. Maybe the wide console makes the F150 seem smaller, but from the buttometer, the Titan feels a little larger from the driver's seat. From the back seat, there's no question- the Titan is larger.
The Lariat was a VERY smooth ride, almost as smooth as my Expedition. Almost, but not quite. I think the ride quality is about the same between the Two. They were both very quiet; and the both have great stereos. The Ford sounds good at low volume, but the louder it gets, the more bass you lose. The Titan's stereo is darn near loud enough to get you some disturbing the peace citations. When it comes to performance- the Titan is way ahead as far as get up & go. I think they'll show taillights to the Dodge & Chevy guys too...
Some of you think the Titan is ugly- so be it. I know guys that think Charlize Theron is prettier than Halle Berry. They're wrong, but who am I to change their minds? I can say the pictures you've seen don't do the Titan justice. It's far nicer when you see it up close. I love the F-150, so does my wife- and it is better looking. That Titan LE was so off the hook, it was crazy. In black, it would have been that much more impressive. If I were to purchase that day, I'd have gotten the Titan- simply from a gadget factor; I love that navigation system. As for everything else, they are dead even in almost every category. And, if the 5.4L has 300 HP, then Nissan's lying about 305. That SOB felt like it must have 350 HP.
Motor Trend has spoken, and the 2004 F-150 is very nice. And, it's true- Nissan did use the 1997 - 2003 F-150 (The best truck on the road during that time) to benchmark the Titan on, and then raised the stakes. IMHO, this is one hell of a first effort, and they guessed pretty close to what Ford was going to do in 2004. Ford is still King, but I think Nissan did one hell of a job on the Titan.
And, for you naysayers, the Tundra is no longer 7/8ths full size. I went to the lot, and the 2004 Tundra Crew cab is way bigger than the regular Tundra's. It's longer, wider and taller than the other Tundra's. I don't know why Toyota is building two different sizes of Tundra's. But, with the super-size Tundra option, I think it's a safe bet than when the new Tundra drops, it'll be 1 & 1/8th's full size then. And, they'll have the 2004 F-150 & 2004 Titan to benchmark....
They won't make the same mistake twice...
Sounds like a win-win-win for the truck drivers of the world.

I've got to agree with you BIG HERSH on everything you just said. I just drove the F 150 and the Titan back to back the other day and was very impressed with the Titan. I have always liked the looks of the F150 over the Titan but, for the amount of truck you get, I think Nissan is the better buy.
I'm going to wait till the end of the year and see what prices do on both trucks then make the final decision.
