This is really bothering me,trying to decide which brand of oil to run. As far as I can find,there is not to many oil company's that make a syn.blend or a true syn in a 5-w20 blend. I know motorcraft has one,and don't get me wrong,but by what I've seen in test,there are some oils just a little better. Mobil does not have 5-w20,neither does castrol,and I've always been a Pennzoil man but I can't find a blend in 5-w20 wt. Also Penn. test results are not that good for there syn. brand. Soooo, that leads me to the big question? What about amsoil,I know I'll have to order it,but I really think it be worth it in the long run. what do you all think.

 

I believe Mobil1 0W-20 exceeds the spec's for the '04 F150.

I am not switching to syn until 3000 miles, so I haven't confirmed that for sure yet.

 

5W20 is a new oil.I would use the motorcraft until the other
oil companys catch up. Walmart has it for $1.77 a quart.they don't have it by the case yet.

I used Castrol 5W20 my first oil change. This oil is like water. When I cranked it up to check level, it had a hell of a lifter clatter for a second.

Just went through the product data sheet on the Mobil 1 0W-20.

It does exceed the Ford WSS-M2C-153H specification. Thats what I'll be running in mine after one dino oil change.

Thanks blitzkrieg,Ilooked on their site,but could'nt find that. I'll take another look. A amsoil rep suggested o-w30,but I don't know about that. I pull a trailer go kart racing in the summer and would like to run a syn. oil since it's so thin.

 

Phillips-The 0W30 Amsoil racing oil at almost $7 a quart is pretty steep, at least to me. On their website, they don't list the "H" designation for Ford's latest spec-list the "G".. I am not anti Amsoil as I use their 10W30 and 10w40 in other vehicles I own. I am currently running Mobil 1 0W20 in my 04 Supercrew. Others have reported that Motorcrafts's 5W20 is a good choice.

Amsoil makes a 5-w20 oil. I believe it's xl7500,the price is around 5.45 a quart. You can go 7500 miles before you change your oil.

I'm a bit upset today cause I just picked up my new '04 F-150 today. Well before picking it up I requested they do an oil change cause they drove it over 500 miles just to get it here from another dealership, plus I always do the first oil change right away so I can get that "break-in" oil out due to it containing all of those various engine lubes. Well come to find out, my own Ford dealership doesn't even use Motorcraft but Quaker State oil. It was 5w-20, but I either wanted the recommended fluid or at least Valvoline, but Quaker State, come on. So that is the only thing that has upset me about my new truck, plus the fact I can't get the seatbelt chime to turn off on the passenger seat.

 

I don't think Ford is in the refining business. Most likely this Motorcraft oil is made by one of the majors, and just put into a Motorcraft bottle. For all we know, it could be Quaker State.
