do you think someone from Motor trend got a free steak dinner for incorrectly stating the nissan has 350 horsepower? surely not.

Ratings are estimates

If you notice, the date on the article is Oct 2003 (on page 1) which means the article was probably written in Aug or Sept. Nissan didn't publish the actual HP/torque ratings until Nov (maybe late Oct). The numbers in the specifications table are followed by (est) so I believe the editors made a rough guess based on what HP/torque Dodge had gotten out of the "Hemi".

Just my guess.....

Just saw the new Titan yesterday for the first time. IMO I thought it was not as nice looking as the '04 F150's. I think the Ford's have a much meaner looking front end and sound. I have yet to put on exhaust, as the titan was also stock and my truck had a much louder growl...which I like.

350 is a bit high I would agree, but I would still like to pull up to a red light next to a Titan and settle any worries about the horsepower. I am sure they are VERY similar in terms of getting off the line.

Not sure what you are driving...but I think you will be suprised if you challenge a Titan at a red light.

C'mon you guys. Your kidding, right. It's just a typo: 350 instead of 305.

Moonbeam is correct. Original estimates were closer to 350 expecting Nissan to aim for the hemi figures.

Dont always judge a vehicle by its specs. Nissan seems to be conservative with their hp/trq #'s. The only way to tell is to dyno each one. I suspect the 5.6 will out power the 5.4 by a good 20 hp. This being speculation based on vehicle curb weight, 0-60 times & quarter mile times loaded/unloaded. Figures posted in Motor Trends TOY article and other magazines.

However, these #'s only tell half of the story. Sure the Nissan is faster, but how does it handle at speed? Or it might pull a trailer from point A to point B very quickly, but can it stop or handle sufficiently? What is the truck going to be like after 50k miles?

My ordered 04 will be my 5th Ford truck and none have let me down. The Titan has a great degree of unknown. If the Titan is for you then by all means go ahead and get it. However, for me the F150 has proven to be very dependable.

This says it all, the Nissan isn't built Ford tough. So what's there to argue about? You notice no optional engine choices, no upfront aftermarket support, and one hell of a steep price tag. I priced out a similar loaded Titan against my current '04. The Titan ended up being around $3,000 more, plus I saved another $4,000 or so with X-plan. Nissan is trying to stick people with full sticker. I'm happy at just where I'm at. At least there already seems to be a good aftermarket following of the new F-150 and it's only been out for almost 4 months.

there are a bunch of other typos in this writeup too, mainly towing specs for the crew cab titan vs the 150
