Unhappy Wind Rattle - Top of Windshield

I have noticed a rattle between 60 to 70mph that sounds like it is coming from the top windshield area. It seems to be primarily on the passenger sided but some on the drivers side as well. It is definitely more than just wind buffeting, but seems to be caused by the buffeting at speed. Has anyone else noticed this? I cannot tell what might be rattling. The windshields on these trucks have no molding or anything else around the windshield that I would expect to be causing this. Very annoying and perplexing. Any ideas?

Which truck do you have? Do you have a bugshield?

I noticed an increase in noice around the windows and side view mirrors when I had a bug shield installed.

Hell, just turn up the radio. All noises disappear then. Sorry couldn't resist.

Rattle

I have an XLT and I do have a bug shield. The noise I am hearing is not just increased wind noise, but a distinct rattle. Almost like two layers of metal in the roofline rattleing together. I had an 88 Ranger and wind would cause the windshield moulding to rattle at the top. That is why I am noticing this so much and the fact that otherwise the truck is so quiet.

Are you sure it's not the passenger side wiper rattling on the glass? I know mine did this when I had the bug shield.

If you notice on both sides of the windshield there are moldings running up both sides sometimes some of them let the air get under them at higher speeds and they vibrate on the windshield. an easy way to tell if this is the cause is to take it out on the highway see if the rattle is present and if so take a few thin pieces of cardboard and and slid them under the molding in a few places and drive again, if the rattle is gone you will be able to tell your dealer exactly what the rattle is. A little sealent at the bottom of the molding will fix it easily.

Rattle

Gunner 15, Thanks for the suggestion. I will do that and see if that is the problem. It sounds more like it is coming from along the top edge. If nothing else, I will eliminate that as the issue.
