Auto Transmission no service

Whats up with the transmission not being serviceable.

I am not a very big fan on things that you are not to service.
I guess I am still thinking of things like lubed for life balljoints&tie rod ends all you do is replace them.

What do you think?

Where did you find this out?

My maintenance schedule appears to call for fluid changes.

Take it with a grain of salt until confirmed - they also said the Lariat has real wood trim...

The new F-150 transmission is indeed sealed.... Not even a dipstick to check the level. I suspect it is similar to the 5R55E in the Explorers. If so, you need a machine just to check the fluid level

Saves money on assembly if there's no dipstick and brings in HUGE $$$ if you need a dealer just to check the fluid level and condition

Ford =

Well, my 04 Screw 5.4 with the four-speed auto has a dipstick on the tranny, and upon this dipstick are inscribed the words: Trans Fluid.

I must have a different tranny than some others.

Yep, a quick check of the Ford brochure (no need to lift my hood) has two 5.4 engine photos CLEARLY showing a tranny dipstick on the passenger side of the engine.

Well, pending how you read it - they're right. It has "real" wood trim... meaning that it's not stickers... (go check out other competitors, and their trims are sticker-packages, not actualy molded plastic and all)...

I just checked my '04 5.4 FX4 (High Torque tranny).

Its got a removable tranny pan and a dipstick marked "Trans Fluid - Use Only...", so its just as serviceable as any automatic tranny I've ever seen.

I think somebody got their wires crossed on this information.

They probably meant it requires no service.

The 4R100 gets a fluid change evary 30,000 miles.
The others (4R70E and 4R75E) only need the fluid checked.
Ford says they're "lubed for life"

Most of you will choose to have them serviced, but the maintenance schedule doesn't require it.
