whoa,slow down people

i think everyone may be getting a little too excited and impulsive over this new F-150. it is a great truck to be sure, but if you already have a nice 1999 or 2000 model dont trade it off,it not necessary. dont jump through your *** getting a new F-150 if the one you`ve got is still relatively new. stop and think,is it financially prudent to trade off a 1999 FX4 Screw for a 2004 when you dont need to? probably not. now me on the other hand,i need a 2004 F-150,because i need to replace a 1993 pos F-150 with no bumper.

True, but if your looking for something to replace your truck now you may want to wait until the 2005 comes out. They will have many of the bugs of the 2004 worked out. First model years always have bugs, 2004 is no different…

No offense, but who are you to tell people how to spend their money.

If I were you, I would spend my time worrying more about myself, and not others. Just my 2 cents.

Buying a new car/truck is NEVER a financially "smart" thing to do.

They (in general) depreciate worse than vacuum cleaners, the first couple of years cost a tremendous amount more for plates (at least where I live) and the insurance rarely goes down on a new vehicle.

But, we keep buying them don't we?

Myself - I like a new vehicle about every two-three years. I can afford it, so I do it. Its my little indulgence in life.

As far as the "first year bugs", read to your hearts content you're gonna be hard pressed to find much.....

Ford spent a tremendous amount of R&D on this truck. You aren't gonna find many wheels falling off.

What the hell...better yet, put the cost of a Lariat in your IRA or 401(k) at age 25 and retire a millionaire. But, on the other hand, who worries about their future financial security...especially at age 25. I wish I had the advice of an ol' Curmudgeon at age 25.

I agree. I traded a 2000 F150 XLT 4X4 with 78,390 mi. for a 2004 FX4. I really didn't need to buy a new truck since the truck I had ran with no problems. But after putting 2 kids through college and doing without it is now time to indulge and spend their inheritance.

I've had a 1999 F150 extra cab, a 2001 Lightning, and a 2002 Lightning. Believe me, there is NOOOO comparison to the new '04, especially when done up with leather and captains chairs. So needless to say, I thoroughly disagree with the first post.

Well, the young Curmudgeon might be chewing out the old Curmudgeon after the bath he took 2.5 years ago when the market tanked.

He might be saying "Hey, I've been driving this piece of crap 1972 Chevy CL/10 pickup for the last 25 years, when if I'd have bought a new truck two years ago my net total cost would only be $3k".

Or he might have gotten run over by a bus, and it doesn't matter.

My opinion is its good for Curmudgeon's to buy new vehicles occasionally because you never know when tomorrow won't come for same.

Enjoy life. Work hard. Eat. Drink. Save but spend.

I traded an 11 month old 03 fx4 in on my 04 fx4. Why? If you havent driven an 04 you wont know why. There is no comparison to the ride. The 04 rides so much nicer, is so much quieter and smooth, that I even refuse to drive our 01 expedtion anymore.

Umm, for some reason, I don't think he was being serious when he originally posted that.

I normaly wait for the bugs to be worked out, but this time I kept reading how Ford was going to have to "decontent" or reduce cost on this truck to keep it profitable and competitive. I read this in industry magazines, and general news magazines and newspapers like Business Week ect. I wanted The truck the press was giving rave reviews on not something changed. Whats more, Ford has alot riding on this truck and I'm hopful they worked the major bugs out before launch, thats what I've heard anyway.
