Exclamation Kansas City Plant!

Help! Perhaps some of the Ford employees on this site can shed some light on this situation.

Here is my truck as of today:

Lariat SCrew 4x4 - 1FTPW14514KB91320

Receipt Date: 11/4/2003
Serialize Date: 11/13/2003
Segment Date: 11/13/2003
Sequence Date: 11/25/2003
Blend Date: 12/1/2003
Produced Date: 12/9/2003
Gate Release Date: 12/9/2003
Ship Date: 12/11/2003
Arrival Date:

I called my dealer today wanting to know why I don't have a truck 11 days after it shipped. He is telling me that there are 500 trucks "on hold" at the KC plant.

Does anyone know what the deal is? Has the plant shut down yet for the holidays? If so, will they be putting trucks on trains if they are already built and sitting in the lot?

Any information anyone can provide will be helpful. My dealer is clueless and I need to take delivery by 12/31 for tax purposes or my wife is going to have my a&#!!!!

Your truck should be here this week or due to Christmas perhaps next week. You can normally expect 2 weeks from shipment date.

Your close.... Be Patient, it is worth the wait....

Geo:

Where are the vehicles if they are "on hold"? Does the plant have them or are they in posession of the shipper? Does all activity at the plant stop at quitting time tomorrow? Or will they be able to ship vehicles?

Freddy:

That was my expectation - But I was thrown for a loop by finding out it hasn't even shipped yet.

Thank you!

I am as upset as you Jeff---mine was built in KC on 12-9, and like you it is on hold---supposed to go out this week dealer said, and will be in next week---only consolation is maybe better rates on 1-3-04-----but kind of aggravating when daccardo and others had same build date and got theirs last weekend---not happy about it

I am in Atlanta. My dealer (the Operations manager - I'm not dealing w/ the sales weenie any longer) called someone in dearborn with better info than he has. She told him she thought my truck HAS shipped. He is finding out today if it is convoy or rail. And if rail, he is going to get a car number to track it.

Does anyone know what the hold is about? Is there a build quality issue they are fixing in the back lot?

Thanks,

Jeff

couldn't tell ya....I don't know anything about a hold. All activity at the plants will stop (except for maybe skilled trades and some receiving/warehouse workers) KCY is just about one of the only (FORD) plants that ships via rail. Others may do it but not on the scale of KCY.

Really can't, unless you have a connect at the rail company.

Mine was shipped 10-2 and arrived in MI (Detroit) 10-08 ....at the dealer the same day (believe it or not!).

You should be able to get a railcar number from your dealer if it has shipped. Once you have that, and if you know the particular rail carrier that is transporting your rig, you can probably track it there by inputting the railcar number (equipment ID).

I was able to track mine on Union Pacific Rail Road.

Dealer told me today that they think the issue is a shortage of rail cars at the KC plant.

They said they are getting mine on a train today as it is a sold unit and not random dealer inventory. If I can get a rail car number and if I can figure out how to track it, I'll post.

It amazes me that I can track every movement of a $5 package with UPS, but Ford is so clueless about the status of millions of dollars of inventory in transit.

My Lariat Screw was built at KC on 12/8 took delivery 12/15. Live in Southwest Oklahoma.

My compliments to the people at KC. Superb quality build, no vibrations and the outside temp gauge seems to be correct.

I worked in the automotive industry for 8 years and one of the most comon problems that hold up shippments of vehicles after they are built is a single part(s) supplier had a problem, technical or otherwise getting there part(s) to the assembly plants on time to get installed while in the regular assembly line process.

So, the vehicles are held in large numbers until the part(s) show up.

If it happens to be a part(s) that has to be installed before something else is put on the vehicle it really creates a major problem.
