"Quiet Steel" Commercial
I don't mean to bust on the new 150's, but has anyone seen the commercial where they say they have this quiet steel in the dash? If you wait until almost the end of the commercial, they show and exterior shot of the truck flying over these bumps and then cut to an interior shot of the sound meter. In the shot with the sound meter you can see the truck moving and such, but if you notice the dash, you can see the speedometer. It's not even registering.... AS in the truck isn't moving.... I know they have to take some "creative liberties" with the advertising campaigns. I think I saw this commercial like 5 times on Sunday while watching football. Just wondered if anyone else caught that.

Have you notice that what is called quiet steel is basically under hood insulation molded to fit on the firewall between the engine compartment and cab? Additionally, as you have probably noticed, the 04 has under hood insulation which was not the case on the previous style…. Be all that as it may, it does help provide for a quieter cab than the previous style (and the previous style was not all that noisy).

Quiet Speedometer is more like it... Maybe they use a more accurate external speedometer during testing, cuz this one sure ain't workin'...

You really can't believe anything you see in commercials. Does anybody really believe they have pinhead scientist types in starched white labcoats testing how quiet the truck is? Would they really set up their insturment on the floor so Einstein can read it as he drives? It's all Hollywood re-creations of real world tests. Looks like Ford threw an actor into a pre production model of the truck (without ANY visible working dashboard components BTW) and knocked out an add in time for kickoff on opening day of the NFL season. I wouldn't let any of the adds by any of the manufacturers bother you all that much because 99% of it is BS.

The answer to your question actually is, "yes". The outside surroundings of that commercial appear to have been shot at Ford's warm climate proving grounds - I think in AZ. but not certain. As a perk (and ot save $$$), the driver probably is a Ford employee.
I have spent a lot of time at GM's Milford Proving Grounds and seeing vehicles loaded with all types of test equipment that is monitored while the vehicel is being driven is not unusual and some of the tests makes one wonder how things that end up being recalls ever make it the showrooms. The white suit is a bit over the top but not unheard of - at least not at GM's MIlford facility. White lab coats in the styling studios at GM's Warren Tech Center is not uncommon.

I was just speaking based on my experience of working in research and analytical labs for years without ever having worn a labcoat. Maybe it's an engineer thing or something.....Thanks for setting the record straight.
i think only doctors and students wear lab coats these days. i am a chemist and i hate those things. no one in my lab wears them. they are optional. it just depends on how much you like your clothes.
internal fans are LOUD!
They sure didn't do anything to quite the vent fans. They are loud. And there's no need for it. They could have put the fans behind the firewall.
And up north, we've been haven't to use those fans to keep the windshield clear and give us some heat. When doing that, forget about the radio, forget about talking. A cheap Hundi would be as quite.
