Ford Soft Tonneau Cover Questions Again

For those of you that own a Ford Soft Snapless Cover I am looking for some information. How does this cover compare to the Extang RT. Is it a rollup cover with the rails attached to it?? Is it locked when you lock your tailgate or can you still open it?? How is it in general?? I am trying to find information on it so I can compare it to the Extang RT or Access Lite Rider but Ford does not have much information on it. Thanks for your help in advance.

I have to tell you that im not very impressed with the Ford snapless cover. I had one on my 99 F150 and it was awesome. The one I just put on my 04 FX4 is kind of the same style. It has three bows that run acroos the bed front middle and aft. THers no way to tighten the cover up. It does look good when sitting still but while driving the aft section of the cover seems to sag and flap around a bit. Also, the old one had a single track and a thin plastic piece that snapped into the track, real easy and nice looking. This new one has two tracks with 2 different size rubber stripes that lock in to it. I have a section about 6 inches long that will not stay locked in. one more thing, the old cover had buckles on the top of the cover so when you rolled it up the strap underneath came around and buckled. This one has 2 long straps to tie it up when rolled up. The straps on the top of the cover blow all over the place and slap the rear window while driving. Im a pretty easy going guy and I bought the cover from my brother (hes a ford parts guy) so Im not complaining to much. He did say he will try to warranty it and either get me a new one or get my money back. I cant compare to anything else since this is the only cover ive ever had. I dont think I would recommend it to anyone, which really bothers me, since I am a die hard Ford fan and like to have all Ford products. If you would like more pics let me know and I will post some close ups of the cover and the way its installed. Oh..there is no way to lock the cover either.

"FORD SNAPLESS COVER"

I just returned my "Ford" snapless cover to the dealer. I had one on my 01' Screw and it was great. The new one is totally different. Not near as nice. The box had a return address of "LUND" on it and when I checked their website I found the same cover for a lot less money than the dealer. So now I'm looking again for a snapless cover. By the way I also bought a FORD bedliner for my new screw and the tailgate cover is about 3" to short. Could it be they are selling old inventory with a 04' part number to unload old stock????

I got the eXtang Saber tonno cover from www.truckcandy.com for approx $200.00 (w/shipping). It's snapless, with a lifetime warranty on the frames, 10 years for the cover. And it's held up nicely with snow and ice on it.

Just a quick update on my Ford snapless cover. my brother called me tonight and said he is going to warranty my cover and get me a new one. When he did, he noticed the part number has changed. Could Ford have seen the problem with this cover already and changed it that quick? I will let you know as soon as I get the new one. If you can hold out, it will be the sunday or monday after Christmas, thats when I will be back up in Connecticut to pick it up.

Brewdude..

Thanks for the info on the original Ford cover. I am currently sitting the fence trying to decide which soft cover to get. I currently have a 99 lightning with the factory Ford cover. I think it works great, and was assuming the new ones would be the same for my ordered FX4 SCAB. I guess not...

I agree with you, and just from your one pic can tell I wouldnt be happy either. It would be great if you could post pics of the replacement part. That would really help with my decision.

Thanx

Marc

New Part Number

The one I just returned was the "NEW" part number
4L3Z -99501A42-DB. It did not seem to be the high quality of the one I had on my 01' Screw. Also the rear member over the tailgate did not appear very easy to remove if you wanted to haul somthing in the bed. Let me know what you think . I'm still looking.
