Unhappy Is this wrong??? HELP!!!

8.25 MPG!!!

Everytime I put fuel in here it keeps going down. $22.99 for 15.973 g. That tank was 8.257 mpg. Mileage was 131.9 mi. I understand winter blend but this is rediculous.

Is ANYONE getting this poor of fuel? 2/3rds of that is highway at 70 mph on cruise.

My computer seems ok and stays within .5 of 13.7 MPG.

I'd say to do the average the old fashioned manual way on the next tank just to check the computer.

I am doing the old fashion way. I do NOT have the computer with the mileage in the truck. FX4's don't. We only have trip odometer, compass, temp and overall mileage.

The numbers are coming off of the fuel receipt and trip odometer.

I'm assuming you've checked for fuel leaks. Both while running and not. Have you changed fuel filters and not gotten it seated correctly? You could have a bad MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor or solenoid. MAP's read the intake pressure, if bad - fuel keeps getting pumped in to build pressure. (Diminished fuel economy) If still new/warranty - go to the dealer. Talk with them. The window stickers show an average - no way you should be that low. good luck

Maybe your sample is too small.
Fill up.
Run it till the low light comes on.
See if that ain't better.

Also, eliminate other variables, go to the same station, use the same pump.

On a 500 mile trip pulling a 5800 pound trailer I had 7.3 MPG. Time to get it checked.

Doesnt sound right at all. Mileage does go down during the winter but that is due to cold temps, not because of the gas. Our gas (here in MN) is the same all year around, a 10% ethanol blend.

Sounds like its time to take it to the dealer, I never see more than 1 or 2 mpg drop during the winter. Hope you get it all worked out.

Let us know what they say.

Sample to small?

Curious?

How does the sample size matter to what the fuel economy is? I wouldn't beleive it would? Would it?

sample size can give you a more even look at the mileage. i doubt it would bring you up to normal MPG, but it is worth a look.

Sample size

If I fill my truck up until the auto shutoff clicks,
reset the trip meter,
drive to the next station one mile down the road,
squeeze/cram one more gallon into the tank,
my sample size will project that I am getting 1 mpg.

If I use the same station/same pump,
run 28 gallons out of the tank,
how much I sqeeze/cram this time that I didn't sqeeze cram last time has less affect on my overall gas calculation.

I only suggested it so that you can remove any variables that could remotely be construed as 'your fault' before you go to the dealer, as your mileage is completely unacceptable.

Thanx.

I appreciate that info.

I will see what happens when I run this till the light comes on. I never squeeze/cram more in. I always stop when the auto stop kicks. This way I know it is the same time every time. (Never thought that I would be different from station to station... Will keep that in mind, thanx.-

I have 500 miles on mine and the MPG is pretty consitent at 14.7. Took a bit of a hit this weekend with a lot of city driving and it dropped to 14.1. I have verified it to the pump and my message center MPG calculator is right on. 2/3 highway miles.

No, somethings gotta be wrong here.

My second tank I averaged 12.78 mpg, and that was mostly city driving and about 35 miles out of 180 were in 4x4 high!.

My engine only had roughly 300-480 miles during that test also....

I'm at 11.8 mpg climbing up and down hills with virtually no highway miles. Something's definitely wrong...

I wonder if you accidentally turned the Over Drive off while you logged those highway miles.?.?.. That definitely is pretty bad, especially for highway. I'd try another tank and verify it before I did anything drastic. Definitely look around for a leak though. You never know.
