spray in liner question
spray in liner question
I see these commercials for spray in liners and it shows people laying stuff in the rear of the truck and splashing water like substances all around, stupid. I want to see someone haul a skidoo in and out of a truck with carbides on the ski's, or lugging a load of rocks or bricks.
For those of you with spray ons, the question i really want answered is carbides on the ski's

The Rihno liner looks tough...I made the mistake(hell it was free from the dealer) of getting the Tuff liner...It's just a thick rubbery application that does nick and cut...I've had it back 3 times so far in 6 months...I just cut a piece of 3/4 ply to fit in the back when I have to haul 'abrasives'
I've had two trucks with spray-ins. A 2001 Screw that had a Speedliner and my current ride (please no flame) a 2001 Silverado that has a Huskyliner. They both were (are) more than able to withstand abbrasion. The speedliner is a little harder finish than the Huskyliner and while I don't work my trucks very hard I have hauled lumber, rock, etc About the only thing these rough materials do is "scratch" the surface of the liner (actually I think its the material being hauled that rubs off rock, wood, etc) However all I've ever had to do was use a high pressure washer and it removes the "scratches," which I think testifies that it's the wood, etc that has rubbed off on the liner. My current truck was purchased used and already had the Huskyliner. Speedliner is the most common in my area because of a really great installer. The Huskyliner seems to fade a little (not a great deal) more than the Speedliner. I've also had drop-in liners and there's no comparison. I'm fairly sure that whenever another truck comes my way it will have some sort of spray-in installed. Again I know of no one whose ripped or destroyed a spray-in. Good luck

In an indepedent test a few months ago three spray in liners on a peice of tin were shot at, cant remeber distance or caliber. The rhino line got a huge whole in it and the lining flaked off around the whole. The next, can't recall the name, stopped the bullet, tin dented but liner chipped off. Line-x stopped the bullet, dented the tin, but did not flake off. My Ford dealer is doing the line-x for me. They used to use rhino but it would chip under extreme conditions then water would start to get underneath and rust the bed, also when they used colored rhino line it would fade after a year, also had a installer from a rhino dealer tell me the same thing when I priced it for my last truck. My ford dealer also had a vehicle roll down a hill and the parking lot and destroy the bed of a ranger. The bed was mangled but the line-x seperated from the metal and held the shape of the bed. The pentagon is being spayed with line-x for blast proffing after 9/11. Line-x sprayed a cinderblock and dropped it from 35-45 feet, it didn't even chip.
Well, I'm not sure about speeding bullets or concrete blocks or nuclear bombs, but I had a Rhino Liner for three years in my prior truck and never had a complaint. Never cracked or faded.
In fact I liked it so much I had one sprayed in my new FX4 last weekend.

Duh! Why is it that I mean one thing and post another?...... I do not have a Huskyliner spray in. Don't know why I said that. It's a rhinoliner. I have the Huskyliner floor mats guess I had a brain fart. Anyway.... Speedliner or Rhinoliner, I've been very pleased with both. BTW, the Huskyliner's are great to protect your interior.

The only Rhino lines that were fading were the colored ones, and from what I here the brighter the color the more it faded. Red often became pink after a year. And the dealer that made the comment about it chiping said it was under extreme conditions. Guys throwing shovels and pick-axes in etc... for work trucks like on a construstion site. I wasn't making a personal attack against Rhino-line just stating the info I gathered when I reserched this for my other truck. I was going to spray a 1978 J10 jeep pickup from head to toe to prevent rusting. Sold that and my Chevy to buy this instead.
