My only complaint

Its been two days since I picked up my truck and I am still like a kid in a candy shop!!!! My only complaint is the digital readout on the dash for the compass , temp., and odometer. What is up with that? I think the could have come up with a better display. It looks like they took the LCD out of a calculator. Is there a way to make it bolder so it is easier to read?

It would be cool to put a backlit LCD in there. I'm sure somebody with skillz will do this eventually.

I don't know anyway to bolden it up but I sure do agree.

Now I know my eyes are not the greatest but that readout is totally useless during the day for me. I can see it at night pretty well though.

Very few other complaints though. I like this truck more and more each day.

I also agree they could have made this display look alot nicer and cooler. The lines on the numbers and letters are way to thin and hard to read you think they could have found a cell phone supplier and used a cool looking LCD screen that already existed.

I brought up this exact point at the Ford Market Reseach group I was at last week. I told them that they needed to have some sort of LCD screen on the dash with all the truck functions on it.

While I have the Lariat Message center, the compass and temp display still suck compared to my '01 Screw's. Ford, as well as Dodge have used these overhead displays for years. Why did Ford have to change? You can forget passangers being able to read the new micro display, let alone the driver. Chevy (and Ford's aftermarket model) use the in-mirror display which I've considered. However that has the drawback of having to toggle back and forth between temp and compass heading displays. Plus I already have the auto-dimming rearview mirror. Don't want to pay for another.

Has anyone thought about using the overhead display from last year's model? I'm wondering if it could be tied in with the existing wiring? I'm guessing at least the compass portion would work as that wiring runs right by out of the headliner to mirror.

Anyone out there familiar with working on these that would know?

You all should have bought the XL package. I don't have any of these problems unless I want to look at the trip mileage. I use my arm out the window for temp and the sun/stars/land features for direction.

BigSky,

I got a laugh out of your reply but, on a serious note, does anyone out there know if the old style overhead display can be patched into the existing wiring. I would guess it can since you can order the aftermarket auto-dim mirror with the compass and temp but am not sure.

After having the overhead display for years, I still find myself glancing up there and would really like it back.

I agree...the display down on the drivers display is a retrograde move.
My wife and passengers really miss being able to see the outside temp. and direction just by glancing toward the rear view mirror.

I can't imagine how Ford Engineers or customer clinics allow this to happen !

I too would like to fit the original style display but surley the appropriate wiring will not be in place.
Otherwise it's a cheapo thermometer and compass from Pep Boys....

UNLESS ANYONE KNOWS DIFFERENT !!!

Sorry Biggdog, I can't help. This is my first Ford and, really, I do not like all those extras. My Chevy's message center display would have been a much better display than what Ford has thrown together this year.
