skiultr...since you're located in the eastern U.S., some tonneau brands are not relevant to your inquiry, e.g., Snugtop/Snuglid which is not distributed east of the Mississippi and perhaps others such as LoRider. Many westerners consider those brands to be far superior to any other available to them. Many such brands have their genesis in the California custom/rod culture and have a loyal following. Conversely, I have noted 'eastern' brands not available to the western consumer.

A generaliztion re: over-the-rail glass or similar covers (e.g. Leer, Snuglid, A.R.E., LoRider, etc.)...all can be removed (just reverse the installation process), but some would be easier than others. Some brands feature "quick, easy-off" hinge/strut arrangements. Take these claims with a grain of salt. In most instances, easy-off or not, two people will be necessary. In many case, tall objects (excluding refrigerators, motorcycles, etc.) can be carried with the tonneau up if properly secured. Generally, removal of most hard tonneaus except in extraordinary circumstances would be considered unusua.l

My undercover comes off in about 10 seconds. Many fiberglass covers you see (Leer, ARE, etc) are permanent installations

I'm pretty happy with my Access Cover. Its not 100% waterproof, but it suitable for my needs. It rolls up nice and looks really nice. Doesn't work with extenda-bed. Paid $459 installed, could have done it myself, but needed it for a trip the next day. Took the installer about 20 minutes to put in. Had one on my '99 Scab for 3 years and still looked new at trade in. Great on my hunting trips.
Likes: Durable (you and your friends could stand on it)
Velcro sides make for a snug fit and roll up (cold weather too)
Tailgate end locks to rails. Someone could reach in from the side, but would have a tough time taking anything. Pretty taught.
Also has a model for those with Over the rail truck boxes

Dislikes: Not 100% waterproof. water gets in from corners, but not alot.
Can't use an extenda-bed.
