running boards?

I just ordered an '04 Lariat Screw. One of the options that I ordered is the "tubular chrome running boards". [at my wife's request] I've had many pickup trucks in my time but, never with running boards and I am not sure if I will like the look of them. The dealer didn't have another truck on the lot with the running boards for me to look at. [Worst case..I guess I can unbolt them]

My questions are:

1. Do any of you have an '04 with these boards?
2. Do you like or dislike?

Thanks and regards
Mark

When i got Mine i wanted the chrome running Boards some of the models the dealer had had them and they look sweet

One i was most interested in had the Black Plastic running boards

the lady salesperson said as if they we`re shown or trained watch this she drove her demo Town car up beside the truck and opened her door so it would Hit the the Black Plastic Running Board .
and said see no mark on your truck no mark on my Car she said now if i did that to the chrome i sure there be a mark on one of are velichles

I was sold on them right there . Good sales person

But the chrome do look nice

You can see them in my gallery. They are the "bright tubular running boards".

There are subtle differences between the factory "bright polished tubular boards" and the Ford "chrome side step bars". I have the latter and love 'em. And yes, the 2.5 inches they protrude does offer a measure of "parking lot ding" protection. And yes, they can be easily removed (6 bolts...10 minute job).

Bug892,

They do look great on your truck. Love the white monotone. My truck is a light color too [Arizona Beige]
I feel a lot better about ordering them now.

Thank you
Mark

Unhappy

Yes, I've had them for years on my '98, but I was hoping to see some solutions by now for aftermarket ideas to help protect the sides/doors. They ALWAYS get hit by other doors in parking lots, no matter where you park; it's unbelievable. I'd like to see some kind of door strips or something similiar. I will also have the Arizona Beige as well, but anything to protect the doors from other doors would be great.

What I'd like to know is, do they really help with getting into and out of the truck. Personally, I have no problem getting into my Screw 4x4, which is one tall ***** with the 18" wheels. But some ladies I know do have to be boosted up. So, can anybody say they help getting in and out?

Yes, I always put a foot on my tep, then hoist myselff up and put the other foot inside the cab to get in. Thinking about it, I think I step on the running board with one of my feet as I get out too. It's so automatic now...

Yea I think your right you really don't need them getting in and out (unless your a woman or a short man) but it saves the edge of your seat using them by not sliding out against it everytime you exit the vehicle. I also believe in the door protection part of it as well from swinging door morons.

I use them getting in all the time. But getting out is a different story. They seem to be too close to the truck to be able to get my size 12 heel on them when exiting. Overall I like them, and I've noticed a few spots where it looks like someone hit them with a door. If they hadn't been there I'd have dings in the paint!

I've got an '04 STX Screw and wasn't too keen on the running boards at first. But, I just had back surgery and they are making it easier to get in and out of the truck.

And like Zackey commented, the other day when I was leaving the Wal Mart some dimwit opened his door into my truck--hard, but just hit the running board. No damage to my truck. I could careless about the car, I didn't even look at it. But it made me glad to have the boards. I only park by cars or nice new trucks now.

I bought the Westin Platinum Series Stainless Steel Tubes. I like them alot. I started to buy the black ones because I didn't know if the Stainless would match with my painted Wheels. I'm glad I went with the SS ones. Also they work out good for my Wife and daughters to use to get into the truck. They were $410.00 before tax and easy to install. Hope this was a help and Good luck on your decision. Buy the way I have a couple of pics. where I installed them if your interested.
