My 04 4x4 lariat crew has gone into engnie failsafe mode about 6 times. This didn't start happening until after my first oil change. It only happens when I first start the truck up, back out of my parking spot, and when I pull forward the computer pops up "engine failsafe mode" and beeps". I turn the truck off and back on and it does nothing. The engine is running great so I have not taken it in to the shop yet. Has anyone else had this happen to them and what were the results?

 

I'd take it back the dealer, i'm thinkin its only suppose to go into failsafe mode after collisions in order to cut off the gas flow. Haven't yet heard of anybody having this problem yet.

 

I suspect the above post is confusing the "limp-home" feature with the fuel pump inertia shutoff switch. They're not related.

Visit your dealer for a likely simple fix under warranty.

 

Sounds like you should call and schedule a hook up to the computer at the service center. Most likely there is a fault that needs reset !! My outboard motor does it every now and then and it goes into an actual mode where it won't run above 1500 rpms Then it takes for ever to go anywhere like that on the great lakes !!! Been there done that

The engine should only go into failsafe mode after coolant loss. Looks like a trip to dealerland is in order.

 

Sounds like you're having cooling problems, as the failsafe mode shoudl only initialize when your engine is overheating. If your engine is still running great, I would think there's a short somewhere in electrical that is causing it to think it's in that mode when it really isn't.

Definitely get it to a mechanic/dealer.

 

engine failsafe mode? any other advice.. here recently i have been driving my truck which has 109k on it. Driving down the road and it goes into engine failsafe mode i have to pull over cut the truck off an then cut it back on an go down the road. any other advice? these earlier posts are from 2003.. does it once in a blue in the past 3 years i hae had it happen to me probably 5 or 6 times.. never did it while i had the warranty on the truck
