Question Cost of the 04 5.4L engine air filter

I was wondering what everyone has been paying for the engine air filters on the 5.4L. My brother went to replace his for the first time today and the dealer hit him at $50.00. That sounds a little high to me.

Your brother needs to start buying his air filters at Checker or Pep Boys. Dealers love to sell air filters, wiper blades, etc....

$50 would get him a K&N that he wouldn't have to replace.

I agree with ViperGrendal, but they aren't available yet. Or are they? Anyone got one?

The filters are pretty ordinary looking - just a flat rectangle - and $50 is harsh, but I can't help but wonder why he needs a filter already. How many miles does he have?

Clem,

His truck has 4500 miles and we work on a farm so it gets drove in the dirt alot. We normally have to change the air filter each time we change the oil. I was paying around $15.00 for the filter in my 01 5.4L and is a much more complex design than the new 04. I love the new design of the filter housing on the 04 and the ease of changing it compared to the 01 that thing was a pain.

Yeah, my dealer charges $6.00 for a quart of Motorcraft 5W20 oil that I can buy for $1.77 at WalMart...same-o for the oil filter that is $2.47 otherwise. At $50, your dealer is charging about 270% over retail. Find a cheaper source and buy your filters by the case.

GO NAVY!

I talked to the parts manager today myself and he dropped the price from $50.00 to $31.00. That sounds alot better.
