My '04 Lariat Issues...
My '04 Lariat Issues...
Took my truck into the dealer yesterday for her 1st (free) oil change and a list of "new model adjustments" that were needed:
1. There is play (slip) in the drivers power seat. You can feel it slip backwards a bit when taking off from a stop.
2. Vibration in the rear end when accelerating from a start or in a turn. It’s usually noticeable in the morning, after sitting for a long period of time (a day or two).
3. Outside temperature display is incorrect. (PCM needs to be reprogrammed to the latest level, using WDS B27.10 or higher.)
4. Very slight pull to the right.
5. Slight vibration or shimmy in the steering wheel when applying the brakes, and occasionally noticeable under normal driving.
6. Audiophile unit seems to display text very slowly.
7. Outside panel vibration or rattle in the driver’s side door when closing.
I spoke with the Service Manager last night and she said that everything has been taken care of, except for #2 (rear-end shudder/vibration), which will be completed by Thursday. The Service Tech was able to duplicate the problem (after letting the vehicle sit for a while) and, apparently, the clutches in the rear differential need to be replaced.

When RDS is ON and you select "SHOW NAME", the information/text that is displayed from the radio station seems to take a long period of time. So, lets say the artist and song are being displayed, some words may be missing due to the slow scroll of the unit.
Does that make sense? Maybe I confused the issue more.

our '02 Expy display works just fine, so that location thing doesn't hold water with me. Plus, if you're hearing the radio station, your location is fine... and you should see the text, too.
i think you're right wingn8ive. the text signal comes with the audio signal so location should not make a difference. did they resolve this issue? i don't even look at mine it is so bad. not only does it miss words, but sometimes it will just put up gibberish and meaning less characters. it sucks.
no update yet... I'll be calling the service manager pretty soon to see what the status is. I already miss driving my damn truck !
UPDATE:
For the vibration in the rear end, they soaked the rear differential clutches in friction modifier and put everything back together. They're on a road test now, to see if it reoccurs.
No word on the rest of the stuff, yet.

They called and said everything is fixed and my truck is waiting for me to pick it up. Will get it at some point today. I did mention that the manual said not to add friction modifier and they said that they obtained the fix for the problem from the hotline. So, I would assume everything will be fine with it. Hopeful anyway.

OK, here's the deal....
I picked up my truck and here's what happened with these issues:
1. PROBLEM: There is play (slip) in the drivers power seat. You can feel it slip backwards a bit when taking off from a stop.
CORRECTION: Ordered a new seat track, ETA 1 week. (They never mentioned it was ordered... said it was fixed. Problem still happening.... I'll be calling about this one)
2. PROBLEM: Vibration in the rear end when accelerating from a start or in a turn. It’s usually noticeable in the morning, after sitting for a period of time.
CORRECTION: Soaked differential clutches in friction modifier overnight, reinstalled and road tested OK. (Everything appears to be OK, will know more in the next couple days. Details were noted on the work order.)
3. PROBLEM: Outside temperature display is incorrect. CORRECTION: Reprogram PCM.
4. PROBLEM: Very slight pull to the right.
CORRECTION: Balance and align front end.. center steering wheel. (Appears to have corrected the problem.)
5. PROBLEM: Slight vibration or shimmy in the steering wheel when applying the brakes, and occasionally noticeable under normal driving.
CORRECTION: Same as #4.
6. PROBLEM: Audiophile unit seems to display text very slowly.
CORRECTION: Deemed as normal operation.
7. PROBLEM: Outside panel vibration or rattle in the driver’s side door when closing.
CORRECTION: Deemed a normal characteristic, as compared to another vehicle of the same type.
Also, they completed the oil change and used 7 qts of 5W30. I was under the impression that 5W20 was to be used.... is this the case or does it matter? I think I'm gonna mention this, as well.
