'04 F150 Seats
As far as comfort I think my XLT seats are great . Its the cloth fabric I dont like. For those looking for extra bolstering Id go to an upholstery shop and they can fix you up. May be costly though. I had leather with extra bolstering added to my wifes Expy with 3 rows for about 1200.00. But they look so much better than factory leather. Two tone and embroidered. I posted all of this earlier on this topic (over two years ago). Its funny that it is still being read.
I have an XLT and the seats are like sitting on plywood. I had an old worn out '87 Cavalier that I had to put a cushion on the seat to keep the springs from poking me in the butt and I'd rather have that seat instead of these new Ford seats.
Just got in from 245 miles, 6 freaking hours in the truck. Apple Valley to LA center, Lancaster, Apple Valley. Two hours of sitting in the truck at various stops.
My back feels fine, my butt ain't sore.
My elbow is a little tender from a day of resting my arm right arm on the center console/seat. I drive with my left almost 100% of the time.
I like my seats.
Not enough padding in the center armrest is my biggest complaint.
It may be that since I'm big and tall it sits different for me, but my truck is pretty darn comfortable.
The seat cushions are a little firmer than most cars/trucks but it helps on a long drive. Raising the front of the seat a little bit helps on long trips, as does adding a dead pedal.
Also, the lumbar seems best left at full tension.
My seats were manual - cloth, over the last year I've put power under them and covered them with leather, so I've tried all the seat types out there, all in my own truck...

I think my seats are uncomfortable. I've gor the FX4 with leather captians chairs and they just arent very comfortable compared to my moms taho or my dads F-250. I'm 6'5 300 lbs. though so maybe thats why they arent very comfortable. It's the only complaint I have.
[QUOTE=JMorri]After all the complaints I've seen on the seats, what are the odds Fords will address this by 05'?[QUOTE]
They did address this. Its called pay for the optional captains seats. For a truck the seats are okay but on a long ride I still feel like crap. I use my car for long drives anyway.

I want to mention, even though it has been posted before, there are no captain's seats in these trucks. There is only one seat in XL to king ranch. They cover it with vinyl, they cover it with cloth, they cover it with leather, and they cover it with ranch leather. They add power. They add memory. They add a seat belt tower in the seat.
They put in a console, free standing or flow through. They put it with a simple fold down center seat no storage or cup holder. They put it with the fold down that has cup holders and compartment.
In all cases the seats are the same. Same cushions, same springs, same frame.
I have torn six sets down so far from Lariat with all options to stripped STX. The seats are all the same. You can swap power into or out of the seats, you can swap the covers. But under the skin they are the same platform.
There are a few small differences in the frame attachments on a Regular cab, kid seat attachments and nothing to stop the seats from flipping forward for cargo loading. These changes are minor and certainly don't affect comfort.
To improve your comfort you can add power to your seats for better positioning.
You can add foam if you have the skills.
But Ford does not option other seat designs on these trucks.

All the Nav and Expys I have seen the seats were a completely different design.
The seats in the F-150 are made to sit on a flat surface. When you put in the seat belts on Scabs and Reg it makes for a pretty proprietary seating system. At least so far. They may use it on another vehicle in the future.
On the flip side, these seats with their flat mount and integrated seat belt would be great for a swap job…

So basically since they are power or heated they call them Captains Chairs?
suprpntr, power is added by swapping the seats or just the seat pedestal. A mornings work. I put Lariat bases on my STX seats. Biggest thing is the child seat bracket needs 'smoothing' on a couple sharp edges, and the tip forward stopper on the Supercrew needs to be bent down as the seats on the regular cab are supposed to flip forward.
inurok, the Captains seats are what they are called when you put them next to the flow through console. An actual Captains seat usually swivels and always has arm rests that are attached to the seat. F-150 options neither of those things.
If you have the center seat with all options on the bucket they still call it a bench.
It's a marketing thing.
Good news is that since the seats swap around so well, there are lots of cool options.
