Extended Warranty?

Picking up my 04 in the next day or two and have been kicking around buying an extended warranty. I almost always take a pass on extended warranties of any kind but am considering it this time.

I got a pretty good deal on my trucks purchase price so I feel a little better spending money on a plan. Plus, I am a little gun shy with all the repairs on my old truck this last year. 11 y/o Chevy so it's understandable but we went a long time without having to put money into repairs. Kind of forgot that vehicles have to be repaired once in a while (and how much it costs). I feel sort of like my luck has run out.

I did a search for threads on this subject and learned a few things but want to see how many of you have purchased one (or might)

I have decided if I get one it will be one of Fords ESP plans - probably the Extra Care plan.

Any thoughts?

You have PLENTY of time to decide on a plan from Ford, I believe you can purchase a plan anytime during the initial 3/36 period.

I decided to wait and see how many troubles this new truck has before deciding on a plan.

When I bought 04 in oct. I belive it would have cost an extra 42$ a month. I did some quick math and realized that if I put that money aside or just deduct it from my account when I make a payment, at the end of 36 months I would have aprox. 1500$ for repairs. I have had ford trucks and cars most of my life and (knock on wood ) have never had any out of the ordinary expenses.

2000 expy, 73000 miles no problems.

1996 windstar, 146000 miles ( just traded for 04 150 ) no problems.

1994 bronco, 126000 miles (traded for expy) no problems.

1989 bronco, 156000 miles no problems, a little rusty but still kicking.

Just my .02

Its a Ford dealer. 6 year/75000 for $1050 after the e-mailed $175
discount. The truck is new design from top to bottom and this
makes me feel better.

When I bought my Lariat the dealer was offering a deal where if the warranty was not used its cost would be refunded at the end of the warranty period. I have this in writing. Member XCR.... says this is refund option is normally an extra cost but is sometimes on "SALE".

You can negotiate with your dealer on this issue.

Also check with XCR.... he is a dealer who also selld warranties over the net.

Just purchased one at fordesp.com
for $1075. When they contacted me, The lowest quote I had was $1,125, so they reduced their rate.

I guess that means that price is very flexable at the dealerships. Don't take the first offer you hear.

bought for 2004 5.4 xlt Screw 4*4
Preimum care 6yr/75K miles. by then we'll be sick of the truck.

I did consider the other warranty dealers such as Warranty Gold that had been mentioned in this group, but found out that that warranty dealer is bankrupt.

Would there be any interest in a group buy? Ford's having some good sales contests so thats my motivation. I was thinking something like $40 over cost to cover secretary's time and postage. It would have to be done by check or pay 3% for credit card. I'd have to set a minimum number of participants at 10 and a end date of December 20th to make sure they could all be closed out by the end of the year.

I'm not saying I'm doing this for sure, I just want to check intrest to see if it'll work.

Good point, I've got to double check, but we can also do it on the Ford Quality Care Auto Service card which has lower fees. It is only like 0.75% fee to the dealer. They also offer a 90 days same as cash for 1.65% or 6 months same as cash for 5.95%. These are just some ideas and there is more to it than what I've posted, but it gives us another option.

I might be interested. My truck is in and "should" be ready. Was supposed to get it today but I called and my salesguy is not in (sick they say). Should get it tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest.

Either way I will probably tell him I'll think about it. I just want my truck!!! I'm tired of thinking about this stuff

A check is no problem for me.

Thanks.

So far I'd say the group buy is a go, but if someone can talk to the site admin's and make sure its ok with them I'd apreciate it.

As for pricing, once we get the go ahead, I'll post the dealer cost on the ESP's and we can go from there.

I purchased a Ford ESP Premium Care after the truck was over a year old, it will cost you more the longer you wait. One of the questions asked, "Has your vehicle been in service for more than 12 months.
