Can this be done?
I am going to ask my dealer this same question this afternoon, but I thought you guys could help me out sooner. Is it possible to get the wheel lip moldings (as the Ford brochure calls it) on a XLT? The Lariat has them, but the XLT does not. According to the brochure it is not an option. The FX4 also has them but they are not painted, just plastic. I want a WHITE SCREW XLT 4X4 with white lip moldings! I am a little dissapointed in the options on the 2004, it seems Ford has streamlined things leaving us having to compromise. I know it's a great truck but I can't seem to get the truck like I want it. I also like the FX4 interior colors the best, but you can't get it in an XLT. Thanks in advance.
You could get the moldings yourself. Not sure if they come painted or not.
What do you like better about the XLT that is keeping you from getting the FX4?
I guess it still doesn't have the white moldings.

I am not even considering Chevy or Dodge, but Ford has limited the interior colors to being model specific. The reason I am not going to get an FX4 is because I want a solid white truck, another thing you can't get. I can live without the wheel lip moldings, so I guess it is an XLT for me. Another thing Ford decided to do in 04 is make the tire sizes P255 instead of P265. The Lariat offers and 265 and the FX4 an optional P275. The dealer will be putting on 265's for me. It is just kind of frustrating, but none the less, they are awesome trucks.
A friend has a white Screw 4x4. He ordered the moldings from the dealer for a Lariat. The body shop painted them to match truck and installed them. The moldings come from factory, gray. You can not order them painted! There are about 12 holes in the side of the fenders on a Lariat to except these molding as will as fasteners on bottem edges of the wheel wells. Shop didn't drill the 12 holes in the sides, just the botton edge. They seem to work ok and look nice. He paid $560. for labor, painting and materials, thats figured at $58. per hr. rate for Shop time.
I was thinking of doing this too, before the truck came but after having it awhile I decided not to spend the money. I now think it looks fine without the moldings. I have had 3 new style pickups with the moldings and I guess I like looking at something different. JT Ford
