2004 Lariat steering problem

Anybody else have this problem. When moving the steering
wheel a little bit when stopped or moving it feels like when power steering level is a little low. Kind of a shudder. Level is OK.
First noticed it only when it was cold, but now it's doing it all the time. Guess I need to take it to the dealer, but would like to know if anybody else has experienced this.

I had that problem with my FX4, but it went away by itself in about 1000 miles.

I am having the same problem. I have a 2WD Lariat Supercab. The problem started at about 1350 miles. My dealer is checking with Ford about it.

My Screw is doing the same thing. It has been there from the beginning. Truck now has 3600 miles on it. It doesn't bother me. Since many are feeling this, my guess is that it is normal for the system. Mine shows up as a sort of "graininess" felt in the steering wheel as you rotate the wheel slightly side to side while sitting still. I'm not aware of it at all while driving at any speed above walking pace. It isn't getting any worse.

Yes. Very annoying. It's being looked at by the dealer right now.

Let us know what the dealer says it is. I can't beleive it is normal since my truck did not have that feel till about 1350 miles.

No problem. Mine is an FX4 Screw. Felt it around 450 miles. I am having some body touch-up done, so I won't have it back till probably Thursday. Look for the results on Friday.

My Steering pump is whining. Did any of your trucks whine before this shudder/judder at low/no speed? Just curious if the whine is a symptom of a bigger problem yet to come.

Took my Lariat to dealer on Monday night. Shop foreman noticed right away during test drive. They couldnt figure it out so they called Ford hotline. Ford told them to replace the steering rack.
It has to come from Pennsylvania. Hopefully tommorrow theyll get it and that will fix the problem. I'll reply when I get the results.

Well the dealers service people changed the steering gear assembly (4l3Z*3504*AB GR. ASY PWR. STNG this is how it's described on the paperwork) as Ford Hotline told them and...............problem is gone!!
Hope it stays that way. According to my paperwork these guys did alot of checking and testing before they finally called Ford.
Let it run the course and if that doesnt do it make sure they call the Hotline.

Well my dealer did all the usual checks on my steering problem, and they couldn't get it to happen to them. Like I said, it comes and goes. They hooked it up to their computers and show nothing at the moment. I told them that a lot of people on-line are having the same problem, but she said she can't go throwing parts on the truck if they can't justify a reason. So looks like I have to wait until it happens again, and hope it stays there till I get to the dealer.

It happened again last night, but then went away again after a half hour of driving. The only way I'm going to get this fixed is if it happens right in front of the dealer. Service tech said that the next time I bring it in, she'll run the VIN through the computer to see if there are any service updates.

Now, how do updates get into this system she'll be running my VIN through? Do a lot of people have to complain about a problem? Or do a lot of people have to get the same problem fixed?

04' XLT - 1065 miles

Mine does this too, in addition to the "slip" feel in the rear end on take-off
