Anyone been gettting stone chips on the front end yet?

I orderd non two-tone paint to get a chrome bumper and avoid bumper chips, but there is still quite a bit of paint on the front end...between the bumper and the headlights...and I'm worried about chipping.

Anyone have any solutions? Maybe clear vinyl or something?

 

3m make a protective coating you can put on your vehicle. It is sold by several companies under different names. One is WWW.XPEL.COM.

Wow,, just looked at that website. That stuff better look good and perform well. I priced out what it would cost to cover the FX4 - $560.00. Aweful lot of money for some sheets of plastic.

Wonder what it looks like after 8 or 9 years.

Yeah, it's pretty expensive. You can actually get the whole front end done for around $300-400. I want it, but I'm still not sure I want to part with that much cash. If you do a search for xpel you will find a couple of people that have installed it. Seems to hold up pretty well.

I agree with you, the xpel web site prices are quite high. A few weeks ago I was looking at them and thinking, geeeez, it'll take $350 to $400 and I'll STILL have to install it myself and if anything like other similiar projects I've done in the past (i.e. window tinting) I'll end up screwing up and having to reorder another kit or three. I'm glad I didn't leave it at that, but actually called one of the local installers (Ultrashield of Goodyear AZ) and talked with the guy. He was informative and better yet, his prices were better INSTALLED than the kits alone were. In my case I got the hood & fender kits (actually it's the first foot or so of the hood), the upper bumper kit, lower bumper kit, light kit (headlights & driving light..........5 times as thick for impact protection) all for under $300 which includes install and 8.2% sales tax. Since I don't like the looks of bug deflectors much and because those of us with two tone paint have large painted upper/lower bumpers that are going to chip, I really wanted to try something different. The film is guaranteed for 4 years against tearing, yellowing, etc. I can give you any personal insight as to how this will hold up but I'm pretty confident it will do quite well.
