Question Audiophile head unit question

Hey everyone!!

Went downt to the custom stereo place today looking for info on the Kenwood DVD navigation system and now I have a question.

Does anyone know if the Audiophile head unit has any built in amplification? Or is there an offboard amplifier installed somewhere? I know the subwoofer has it's own amp.

The installer thinks it would be rather easy to install an aftermarket unit and still use the factory sub. He's thinks it's just a matter of figuring out how the signal gets to the sub. My concern is whether or not I will need additional amps for the speakers once the head unit is replaced.

System I am considering:

Kenwood eXcelon KVT-911DVD screen/headunit
Kenwood KNA-DV3100 DVD navigation
Some Kenwood changer that will be mounted in center console.

Thanks!

I just installed the units you are considering, as well as the 10-Disc DVD Changer, Sirius Satellite module and Bazooka sub.

I'm not sure about the audiophile head unit, but I was under the impression that the sub in the rear was active and not passive. (I didn't have the audiophile unit).

Good luck with the install - there are cramped quarters to work with in this truck!

New Kenwood KVT-911DVD 6.5" Monitor/TV/CD/DVD $1,249.95
Kenwood KNA-DV3100 GPS Navigation DVD System $1,039.95
Kenwood KDV-C810 10-Disc DVD/MP3/CD Changer $684.95
Kenwood Sirius KTC-SR902+CXSR20 Tuner/Antenna $64.95
Combined S&H with Insurance (to 30041) =$79.95

Grand Total =$3,119.75

Paid $3120.00 delivered, spent another $150 installation parts and accessories. I used the Scosche installation kit and wiring harness.

I also bought an IR emitter that will connect to the Steering Wheel controls, but that's an install for another day. It's called a PAC SWIX and costs about $65.

Will post a pic tomorrow. Please email me if you need contact information (for the equipment).

The installation took two days (with constant trips to get connectors, fastners, interior rivots, etc.). Pleased with the result though and I'm sure my boy will love watching Elmo in the back seat when he's big enough to have his seat facing forward. My next project is to install monitors in the headrests. (I spend Friday/Saturday installing a DVD Changer, NAV-TV, headrest monitors in my wife's X5 which was a nightmare!) This was easier, except for the lack of space.
