Keyless entry range?

how far away is everyones keyless entry working? the range on mine is rather bad and I don't know if there is some way of turning it up or if the keyless just sucks on the new ones... My mustang also had horrible range but I have to be 20-25 ft away with the f150... my parents each have 02 f150's and their keyless is like 1/4 of a mile almost.. anyone know what gives?

I noticed that too...seems alot worse than my 01 Lariat SCab was. I don't have the prob now though...I had the remote starter (Code Alarm) from my old SCab installed in the new SCrew and range is about 200 yards.

Keyless entry range not enough......try this !

Apart from the fact there are those on these forums that think I've lost the plot anyway.....this is going to prove it.

Move away from your truck blipping the keypad until the point where it doesn't work.

Then.....here's the wierd bit....hold the keyfob against the side of your head and try blipping it again.

Go on....risk looking stupid....you might be surprised !!!!

Lenticular is right. I hold mine - for my '01 Lariat Scab - to my chin and can nail it from 200 feet or so. Must be the metal plate in my head!!! Or the dead air space.

I agree...The remote key fob to the chin trick works quite well. I am not sure this works, but I have been doing it for years with great success.

Are you all trying to trick people into running around with key fobs at thier chin? Never heard that, but might try it. I seem to have no problems with ours.

yup key fob to chin works in Ohio and SC too.

Question: last I checked you can only enter your vehicle when standing exactly next to it so why does this matter? Do we just like it unlocked and waiting for us?

ahhh, the Passenger. Well my wife usually walks next to me, occasionally in front of me, BUT NEVER THAT FAR IN FRONT OF ME. Besides, she likes how I usually open her door. The same with friends less the door thing.

Just adding a little sarcasm to the thread-thats all. Nothing personal.

I like it because it never fails a friend will leave something in the car or they want to put something back in the car... and I don't want to walk all the way back to unlock the thing or lock it back... when if the range was better than 15-20 ft then I wouldn't have too... I also dislike how loud the horn is when I lock it so I prefer to be far away from it when it blares so I can try to keep what little hearing I have left...(damn concerts)

Now does anyone have a true "serious" solution to this? Can the stock ford system settings be changed or would it be better to just buy a car alarm?

Yep, key fob to chin works. It's worked on my Land Rover for years. The Land Rover had a very short distance as well. Their fix was to install a longer antenna wire in the truck. It did increase the distance, but still not as far as the "chin" trick.

Increasing or changing out the antenna inside the truck (wherever that may be) might be worth looking in to.

Yeah, its hard to convince people that the key fob to the chin really works..... I have showed people before and they are still in disbelief

Why, Why, Why???

Well at least that key fob can't be pumping as much radiation through our brains as a cell phone.
