Tire Pressure

Another thread referred to tire pressure and ride quality. Inspired me to check mine. My BFG P tires are rated at 35 #, the door label says 35# - my tires were all 42#...and it rides like a dream! I reckon I should drop 'em to 35#, huh?

What are the risks with a 5-7# overinflated tire?

Premature wear of the center of the tire because it is slightly rounded from the exessive pressure (which increases with heat).

Depends on the time of year, but right now we overinflate ours a little since the upcoming cold temps are going to drop them back down. Another thing to check is your tire pressure gauge. We got a batch of the cheaper style gauges from Ford a couple years ago and there was 7.5 lbs difference between the highest reading and the lowest. So we went around our shop and checked all of ours and a couple were off.

my Goodyear stock tires were at 40 lbs even though they are listed on the side of the tire for 50 lbs. they ride well without any odd wear at 40lbs so I am going to keep them there. also, in the owners manual it call for 40lbs and my service guy also said 40lbs. until i get some aftermarket stuff on there they will be at 40lbs.

Hey Brewmaster

Dont you have the LT Goodyears.

The P tires run at a much lower pressuer.

Best to air up according to tire label.

I also think the pressuer rating on the tire
says what the maximum is.In my case max.
is 35 Lb.
