heated mirror install question

I got a 2004 f150 4x4 xlt true blue supercab 5.4 off the lot and it had te power sliding back window and everthing that I wanted but the heated mirroes. I went to the Ford dealer nd they only want $68 for the whole mirror assembley yes no typo really $ 68. I wanted to know if I bought the mirrors and the switch that goes on the dash and hooked it up to the wire harness that is already there will it work . Is the harness all there or is it differnt for trucks without that option. If they all have the same wires that could be a cheap upgrade. I have 4000 miles on it already and it is the best f150 I have ever had.
Thanks

I think you need to check that price again.
The heated glass alone is more than $200.00
The whole mirror will be in the $400 to $500
area.
Sorry

Actually, the whole mirror assembly is around $130 (each). You can't order the glass separately. If you do, it is the unheated version.

When I broke my drivers side mirror (on the first day I had the truck) , I sat down with the parts guy at the dealer and we ordered what we thought were enough parts (glass and motor) to fix it, since the housing wasn't damaged.

When the glass came in, it was unheated, so we spent another 30 minutes looking through the parts breakdown for the 04, and the only way you can get the heated assembly with the integrated turn-signal is to order the whole assembly. The cost for that was around $130. The cost for the (unheated) glass is around $20, and the motor is around $60.

I don't know how much of the wiring is there if you don't have the option installed by the factory, although it would seem to make sense that the harness would have all the necessary wires.

I replaced my own drivers side mirror, which was not too difficult.

You would need:

a) The mirrors. (around $130 each)
b) The switch on the dash.

There is a connector that goes through the door into the back of the mirror, and 4 stud/nut combinations on the mirror. I'm not sure which wires are for the heater, but I could check my old broken one if you are really that interested.

You could probably take the door panel & dash panel off (there are threads here that describe that) and use a meter to confirm that the wires are in the harness (or maybe someone from the factory can speak up). If they are, it should be as simple as ordering the parts.

Ok,,, It can be done,,,,
You must get the mirrors,, heated with turn signals,, about 130.00 each,, unless you are buying at cost,,, which is about 70.00 each,,, than you will need the 19986 ac switch ,, unless you already have a heated back glass,,, in other words if you have a defrost button on the ac switch for the rear defroster window,, you dont need to replace this switch. If you do need to repace the switch you will also have to replace the 14a068 fuse box in the Right hand kick panel...
ac switch about 80.00 and fuse box 180.00,
Good luck.
