Factory Tonneau Cover
Factory Tonneau Cover
Does anyone have the new 04 Factory Tonneau? I am thinking of getting a tonneau, and I really liked the factory cover I had on my 99 scab. I am just trying to figure out if the factory covers are the same. The '99 one had three removable ribs, and the entire cover could be pulled off. I am hoping someone with the factory cover (or someone who has seen it) could tell me about it - something that is totally removable is a must for me, as is a snapless cover.
Thanks for your help

I have purchased the Leer hard tonneau and really love it. I have pictures and will post once I download them from the camera. I haven't seen the factory one but the new leer series is really sweet looking.
Good Luck!

Hello, I had the factory cover for a grand total of 5 days before I took it back for a refund. I also have had Ford covers in the past
and was very disappointed with this when I got it.
My 2 main complaints with it were that it pooled water badly, and it flapped around so bad on the freeway that I thought it would unsnap.
The cross bars were made of what looked like an extruded aluminum stock that was very flimsey. I had a Downey SST cover on my '99 Lightning and it held up excellent for me (even at 120mph+) I transfered it to my '01 and it had held up as well as the day I bought it except for normal weathering. After I returned the cover to my dealership, I ordered the Downey which is what I should have done to begin with. Just my .02

The Ford cover I had on my 99 was snapless, do they still make a snapless cover? I am looking for the same cover (at least I hope it is the same on the new ones) because I really liked that one, it had three ribs with a spring lock on the side, and instead of snaps it had a sliding channel which make for a pretty waterproof cover. I am hoping the new ones are like that, but I have no idea (nor does my dealer). Before I drop money on one, I just want to get some advice.
I'm pretty sure the cover you are refering to has been discontinued. There was alot of problems using that cover in cold weather environments and I know that Ford replaced alot of them because the corners tended to curl up. The only cover for the '04 that they had was a snap type.
I don't believe they have a factory cover. They have Ford brand ones, but they do not come with the truck from the factory, so it is like buying an aftermarket cover from your Ford dealer. I saw them and as LightningKid has said, they seemed pretty flimsy.

I just checked out that cover at www.fordaccessories.com
That cover looks exactly like what was offered as a factory installed item in the past. If a snapless cover is what you are after, this looks like the ticket!

OK so I just ordered the snapless cover from www.fordaccessories.com - one thing to note, the website is listing the price at 410, where they are charging 300 and change. I will keep you all posted on whether this 04 cover matches up to the 98s and 99s.
