Has anyone tried putting the Sirius antenna under the plastic cowling by the windshield wipers on a 04'? I saw someone did it on an 03 that looks like it has slots you can actually see through.

After looking over the pictures I think I will try and install my Sirius PNP3 antenna by the 3rd brake light tonight. I have had the radio mounted to the dash just left of the stereo with the antenna laying on my dash until I could think of a good place to mount it. It is in clear view of the sky there but it drops signals every now and then, my XM worked pretty good there but the Sirius seems a little more touchy with the signal. In front of the 3rd brake light it will get good reception and look like where it should be if it were OEM.

Wiring Question...

Not to be off topic, however I just ordered the wiring harness for my truck. When I took it apart to get things ready for my new AVN2454, I noticed another 16 pin connector on the back of the radio. It appears to use only 5 or 6 wires and the radio still works with it disconnected (along with the steering wheel controls). Does anyone know what the second harness does and where I can order it?

Thanks!

Wow, great instructions. Now if we could only get directions to remove the door panels for those wanting to trade handles with other F150 owners. I've got a person who is willing to trade his black handles for my chrome ones.

ah yes, the xlt (like mine) curves inward toward the dash at the bottom. the ones in the picture are straight all the way down. but to answer your question, yes. When i took mine off i was about to freak out. I knew it was about to break and when the loud pop came from me tugging on it so hard, nothing had broken. whew

Wow, awesome tutorial, thanks a ton. I just installed a Sirius setup today on my 04 SCREW w/ audiophile. I followed pretty much the same route with an FM modulator, etc. However, my issue is when I'm driving and I hit the brakes, I get a loud hum back through the speakers until I let off the brakes. Any ideas?!?!

Thumbs up xm commander

The roady install looks good. As an alternative, the XM commander fits nicely in the ashtry holder. I did mine last year. I don't have pics at work but if someone wants to see, I can post later.

Thanks for these instructions. The bezel really does take some scary force to remove, but after that the rest is butter. I'm now listening to MP3s!

I take mine off so often that I picked up a 10 dollar one on e-bay as a spare. Have not needed it yet, but it makes me feel better to have it.
I also got spares for the ashtray/holder, and the top junk tray. Cheap spares are good insurance.

Being a Ford noob, this thread is VERY much appreciated. I also have an XLT and sat in the truck examing how in the world to get at the radio. Now it's all clear. Can't wait to get my PIE installed now!

How does the mount attach to the dash? Is it double-sided tape, etc? With everything, I always get concerned with removal and the ability to return the area to its original condition if I choose to get rid of the item.

I never like to do anything that will cause a permanent disfigurment.

My truck doesn't have the ashtray. Can't get my fingers under the bottom of the trim piece. I can easily pry from the top. Can I pull from the top without breaking anything?
