Can anyone inform me about the towing capacity of the 2004 F150? I've heard it's 9,900.

 

Yes you are correct about the maximum towing capacity for a properly equipped vehicle. Mine is a 4x4 Supercrew which I believe is rated at 9200. SuperCrew and 4x4 take away from max towing, also what gear ratio you have in the rear end. You need the 4.11 to get the max and that does not come in all vehicles.

 

The dealer told me that it's higher than the advertised capacity. More like 10,000 lbs. Who's to say though....

DaleF150 aren't those the advertised numbers not the "real" numbers?

Also doesn't it void your warranty to exceed the numbers listed in the manual? So if the "real" numbers are higher is Ford going to put something up other than just a blurb in the press?

 

18" wheels drop, Supercrew drops, and 4x4 drops. 8700# is your number.

Anyway, I would not be too concerned with that. If you plan to tow something in the 7000+ range, buy a Superduty. It will be cheaper too.

 

I suppose it voids the warr. if you overlaod it but how are they going to tell. Ford did update the max tow capacity, check out the max for the regular cab 4x2 long bed with 4.10 and 5.4L it is now 9900. Again if you need to tow this weight then I would go with the superduty as APT says. Maybe a guy needs both trucks one for towing and one for cruising. That sounds good to me. A man cannot have too many trucks!

 

Oh yeah. Some of us will be doing well just to swing the new F150.

 

I hope you didn't think I was serious, although I still have my 1986 F250 that I will keep for awhile until the newness wears off the F150. I dont want to get the new truck dirty.
