List of problems with Lariat 4x4

1) Transmisison Malfunction reading
2) Vibration in steering wheel and floor
3) Poor throttle response
4) Passenger heated seat intermittently works
5) Outside temperature control not accurate
6) Climate control functioning poorly
7) Side tracking (washboard effect) when driving on bumps (Could be hazardous for those of us that drive on snow and ice)

All of this for a mere $38,000. Quality is Job 1 !

First of all where are you coming up with all of these problems. I have an 04 Lariat 4x4 and have none of these happen to my truck! I would like to see or hear something from everyone else about this.

I recognize about half of those problems that he listed as being actual complaints from various other 04' F-150 owners. Do a search in this forum and you'll find about half of them.

Let's look at these by number shall we.

1) What are you talking about. If its the selector it sounds like the linkage is off (easily fixed).
2) Sounds like a tire is out of balance. Tires will ocassionally throw wheel weights it does happen
3) A known problem with the electric throttle. Its been discussed on this site over and over and over.
4) May be related to 5/6 or could be a loose plug
5) Known problem (Dealer repair reported on this site either yesterday or day before). BTW, I didn't know Ford was offering an outside temperature "control" on the new truck. If they were I would definately would have gotten it. I hate working in the cold.
6) Related to 5. The climate control system uses information from the outside temp sensor. Therefore, Fix 5, 6 goes away.
7) Sounds like you need to slow down when crossing bumps. The truck was touted for having a greatly improved suspension system. Now if you got a bad shock it could cause this problem.

In a nutshell, take it back to the dealer for a FREE service. They will fix most/all of your problems. 1,2, maybe 7 are the only "new" problems you are talking about here.

So are you saying when I'm driving down the freeway at 70 mph (legal limit in Michigan), I should slow down when going over a filled pothole (which are abundant on Michigan roads)? I don't think so. I think Ford focused way too hard on the style and not enough on performance. I think my truck missed a quality check. Don't get me wrong, there are quite a few things that I love about this vehicle but the things that are wrong, should have been fixed before the vehicle was released.

Having reviewed your other post I will reinterate and say definately, Take it BACK to the Dealer. It sounds like you may have some problems 1 and 7 (given your other post would guess that 2 is related to the trans) specifically. 2 has to do with the electronic throttle (although I think I have read elsewhere in this Forum that the engineers have a fix for this problem. I know that 5 and 6 are related and would think that 4 is related to these as well and I know there is a fix for 5 which will also fix 6.

Yes Mecheng, we will definately have to take it in for service. We have 2500 miles and are still finding concerns with out unit. Most recent.... vehicle is in Park and we cannot remove the key from the ignition unless we play with the shift lever. Also, our windshield glass is wavy. We have found out that there is a TSB for "Steering Wheel Nibble 60 MPH and Higher". Road force balacer is required for the tire/wheel assemblies. If not available, check balance on tires and rebalance as required. I'm sure it will all be ironed out when taking it in for service. I'm just very disappointed with the way they rushed these vehicles out the door.

Rush to market....So far you are the only one on here that has had problems with your Ford. The current Dodge and Chevy products have been around a while and have many more problems than what I am hearing from on here. This is the main reason I purchased my Ford. Go to the Chevy and Dodge message boards. Although like us, most of them are very proud of there trucks, they are having far more problems than I have seen on here.

I am sure Ford will make your truck right. When you make as many trucks as they do, you are going to have some that tend to be faulty...

You mentioned your windshield was "wavy". I haven't heard of this and was wondering exactly what you meant by "wavy". Just curious. I test drove one on a lot and when you looked through the windshield it didn't seem right. Really don't know how to explain it.

Mine has 800 miles on it and it has no "problems." I expected this kind of throttle response from an electric throttle control. perhaps there is a fix if it is a problem, but it doesn't bother me. i knew what i was getting into with it. as for the others, sounds like it is just your truck. i am quite proud of my 4x4 lariat. i guess there is one problem with my truck, it attracts dust like crazy. but then again, it is black. so yeah, no real problems here.

I picked mine up Friday, and was running errands all over today. Twice today I was unable to get the key out of the ignition. After putting it in Park in a more forceful fashion, I was able to remove key no problem. Sounds like a match to one of your issues. Other than that, 350 miles and no other probs.
