Radio opening
Radio opening
This is what it looks like with the radio removed. There is a lot of potential with after market goodies. Also the little tray that sits in the middle of the dash is removable. Hmmmm...after market navigation or any number of other things.
thanks for the picture. i have the new fx4 and would like more info on removing the radio. could i get more info from you about what you did? i'm interested in knowing where the spring clips are for the center molding, any hidden screws, and if there is a special radio removal tool that i need. also, if you removed the door panels yet, i'd like to know what's in there.
thanks,
brett

margenc,
I have the In-Dash 6 CD radio (no audiophile) in my truck (2004 Lariat) and there is no Aux input on the back of the radio.....
I did find an extra 8-pin connector that comes out of the main wiring harness that I think is used to tie the audiophile in or it may be used as an Aux. It was clip tied to the framework behind radio
I'm a little perplexed with this connector since it does not originate from the radio..
and both mating halves are there plus I don't see it in the picture from pepatrick at the top of this thread.
Anybody have any ideas on this thing??

Link in "fatboy0103@***" comments goes to thread that discribes how to open face plate up.
But, I will try to give a little more detail if this helps. Face plate opens up the same for both center console and flow through cabins.
Open ashtray, grab bottom edge of face plate that is now exposed along one side and pull out, repeat on opposite side, Then work way up gently pulling on opposite sides. There is a total of 3 clips on each side of the face plate that holds it in place. Strong word of caution.... DO NOT GRAB and PULL the face plate along bottom center above ashtray, you risk breaking it. Remember ONLY along the sides.
Mine was stuck in place very solidly and I did have to use much more force than I thought I would of had to. Try to be gentle as possible.... who knows how long it might take to get a replacement.
The radio and ashtray are just held in place with screws that are exposed once the face plate is removed.

Hey breser, which of those plugs are used when hooked up to the truck?
Should narrow down which ones are used for aux, UNLESS, the overhead DVD system is linked to the head unit via wires already connected into it.
Anyone have an idea as to how to find out which pins are aux input? I mean besides possibly frying it or the audio source?
Maybe disassemble the radio and look for silkscreen info on the pcboard? Or trace the circuits?
