Have any of you lucky '04 150 owners purchased an extended warranty? What are they offering and what are they charging$$ $$? Any particular year/mileage combination recommendations?

 

Off the top of my head, I think I paid $1600 for the 4 year, 100k extended warranty. I drive about 20k a year to work and back, the price of living in the country, but the new truck makes it a pleasure. It should work out just about right with 25k a year worth of coverage.

 

I checked with Warranty Direct.com - $1350 4yr/100000 mi. and A 1 Source was $1134. These were $0 dect. bumper to bumper. I hope I can talk my dealer down to these prices or I'll buy direct from one of these. My local dealer says they'll except any warranty if the company pays them with a credit card. This was for a 04 - F150 screw 4x4. Hopes this helps...

 

I am never ever an extended warranty guy. But does anyone else think in this case it might be a good idea? Seeing as how the truck is a redesign? Usually my thinking is that if something is going to go wrong, it will go wrong within the first 36,000 miles. May be good peace of mind.

I am buying A-Plan. Is there an A-Plan price for an extended warranty?

 

All you have to do is replace a transmission and it has paid for itself. My business partner replaced his 5000 miles after his warranty ran out...$2100....

I also think that XCR... said he could sell us warranties in an earlier thread even though he's in a different state. Check w/ him on prices.

 

Hey guys there is a tremendous mark up on extended warranties. I always include in the deal an extended warranty @ Dealer cost. It should be around $800 for the f150 '04... Ask your dealer for his cost!!!

 

I got a 5year/100,000 mile extended warranty for $1200 (AAA pricing). I figure since it is a new model, I don't want to be the guinea pig. The dealer first tried to sell me a 4 year/ 75,000 mile warranty but then he increased it to 5/100K for the same price. I don't know if you can get it at cost. It's always worth a shot.

 

You can buy extended warranty from any dealer (in your country, US dealers can't sell to Canadians). If you buy from one out of state you don't pay tax so that can be an advantage.

As to what to buy, I STRONGLY recomend against anything but a Ford warranty (on a Ford). Our dealership and most others refuse all plans except Ford as the requirements to get aproval to do the repair often take longer than the repair itself and they won't pay for the admin time involved. Also if they go bankrupt you have no coverage. One of the companies doing these locally recently did this and numerus people got screwed.

As to whether or not you need one its up to you. I look at them like car insurance. Odds are you aren't going to get your money back. If the odds were in your favor they'd go out of business as they wouldn't be making any money. However, if you use it, you can come out way ahead. I personally bought it on my last car as I didn't want to take the chance of having a major expense. Haven't used it yet, but you never know.

Also on pricing. New prices came out on October 1st (most went up about $40) so the pricing is different now that it was before. Ford also added optional Road Hazzard tire coverage if you want it.

I got a 7 year / 60,000 miles, $ 50 deduct, PremiumCare warranty from the dealer for $ 1180.

I was going to get one from the excellent, outstanding and fantastic XCR which would have been less... BUT.. the dealer was offering a full refund on the warranty if it is not used before it expires.. BUT you had to buy on the same day as the truck was deliveried.

I live in a semi-rual area 75 miles outside of Washington DC. I only live 3 miles from work and all that is in our small town, so 60,000 miles is more than sufficient.

I made my apoligies to XCR and he was kind enough to advise me to (1) be sure to get a signed "Signature Agreement" which documents the deal (which I did), and (2) consider carefully using the warranty (save it for big stuff).

It is a new model, but I drive gently and I really should not have many major repairs during this period. My last vehicle was a 92 Taurus which only has 70,000 miles and had no major repairs.

I think the "Finance Manager" may have goofed on the offer as XCR advises these are suppose to cost more to pay for the refund option.

Extracare is the most common seller. I'd advise against PowertrainCare as it doesn't cover anything but driveline. BaseCare is also a good plan and covers the major components (driveline, A/C, Starter, alternator) but doesnt' cover all electrical stuff. PremimumCare is the best plan and covers most things, but the price reflects this.

You did pretty well, the prices went up $105 on 5yr100k mile Premiumcare ($50 deductable) on October 1st, but even on the old pricing the dealer lost money selling you that plan so you did very well.
