Comparison of Lariat and FX4

Interesting...

Price a loaded FX4 SCAB with the same options as the Lariat. The lariat is a little cheaper, and has a few more standard features on it. I noticed that when I purchased my Scab Lariat it stickered for 36500. The same truck but in FX4 format was about 470.00 more. I could not tell a difference between the two. I even compared window stickers. That is strange since Lariats have histroically held better resale value.

Did you add Limited slip rear end, skid plates, off road shocks, etc.?

i got it all in mine and it was cheaper than if i wanted the FX4. not sure what the draw would be to a loaded FX4. you get so much more on the Lariat. but if someone didn't want all the options, then FX4 is cheaper than the lariat and well worth the money. i am biased though. i love my Lariat.

Lariat starts out as 2-wheeldrive, FX4 is 4-wheeldrive. Take off about $3000 off the price of the FX4, you'll find out that the LAriat really cost more.

I am comparing FX4 with Lariat 4x4. Same options. You can confirm this by going to the Ford site and build your own. The Lariat comes in a little cheaper. I think the only thing I could not get on the Lariat were the heavier duty shocks, but everything else was the same. When it is all said and done though it doesnt really matter. They are all great looking trucks.

I think I figured it out. When I add leather and power captains chairs to the FX4 it brings the price over the Lariat, when all other options are the same.

I'm not knocking anyone's truck here, because as Pepatrick stated, "They are all great looking trucks." This is just my personal opinion.

But what is the big attraction w/ the Lariat? I think the FX4 blows away the Lariat in looks by a wide margin. The interior of the Lariat, in tan anyway, just doesn't seem to flow smoothly to me. I don't think the silver, tan and wood grain really go together. But on the FX4, the black and silver looks stunning.

And exterior chrome, to me anyway, just doesn't do it for me. I think the body color w/ black insert grill on the FX4 was a great idea. Along w/ the body color or dark shadow grey bumper.

I guess it's just my taste is a little different, but I keep hearing Lariat, Lariat, Lariat. And I keep thinking...Why? Why? Why?

You get a couple more options (Display Center, Auto Temp, etc.), but I think looks outweigh a couple extra comfort options.

Ultimately, preference. But here are some things availible in the Lariat and not on the FX4.

EATC
Deluxe heated seats: power pass seat, driver memory, memory pedals
Auto dimming rearview mirror
True monotone paint - not wheel lip mouldings a different color
Message Center
Lariat Supercrew has real leather in back vs. vinyl
Fake wood trim

Other obvious styling differences too.

I prefer the Lariat look and equipment, despite the wood trim. If you don't like the Tan, how about Lariat black compared to FX4 black leather?

Naah. I'm really not a leather seat guy either. I ordered the black sport cloth on an FX4. And I really dislike fake wood trim. When I'm driving, I'm obviously inside. So I want to look at the most appealing dash. Just a matter of preference, I guess. Although I do have the auto dimming rearview mirror on the FX4.

The FX4 interior is nice, but I don't like that grill...the same one that's on the entry level truck.

Small quibble, but the leather in the back of the Lariat, is just a few square feet in the middle of the seats and backs (a.k.a. leather trimmed).

I prefer the Lariat look and equipment, despite the wood trim. If you don't like the Tan, how about Lariat black compared to FX4 black leather?
FWIW, the other night I looked at the interior photo of the FX4 in the Ford's brochure and didn't like the difference in the perforated leather front seats vs. the rear bench. The Lariat black leather is easier on my eyes, but the cream colored guages do seem somehow out of place to me.

Amazing how much the little trim differences makes on the overall look of the truck. The chrome grill surround does not look as good to me, as does the color matched one. Actually like the XLT grills the best! I have vacialated on the chrome bumpers, but (now) think the body colored ones look 'fresher'. The auto temp control feature is too nice to limit it to just the Lariats!

Come'on Ford, how about giving us a black on black Lariat with the white guages, lose the fake wood (or give us the real thing, in another color), the XLT grill and surround and the FX4 body colored bumpers?

I remember ....

reading the Ford brochure and they said the FX4 had more steel in it where off-road enthusiasts wanted it....Maybe there are some subtle changes under the truck in the frame and suspension between the two models...I have an 02 Ranger FX4 off-road and when parked beside a 02 Ranger 4x4 off-road the front suspension control arms are differentas well as the shock setup....just a thought.....don't be afraid to crawl under these luxury trucks and see the dirty side ya'll.

I think they might be referring to the skid plates that are part of the FX4 package. The only new F-150 frame that is different in sectional dimension, is the one used for the Heavy Duty option package trucks, and that is only available with an 8' bed.
