Seatbelt chime

I would like to find a way to disconnect the seat belt chime. I always wear the seatbelt while driving, but not in my neighborhood. If I drive up the street (In my neighborhood), I would not put the belt on and do not want to hear the thing chime. Any ideas.

The manual details on how to disable the "Belt Minder" thing.

There are 9 steps you need to follow to deactivate or activate your Belt Minder system. Before doing so, make sure that:
The parking brake is set.
The truck/car is in Park (automatic), Neutral (manual).
The ignition is OFF.
All doors are closed.
The driver's safety belt is un-buckled.
The parking and headlights are OFF.
Then follow these 9 steps:

Turn the ignition switch to ON, but DO NOT START.
Wait for the safety belt warning light to go OFF(1-2 minutes).
Steps 3-5 MUST be completed within 60 seconds!

Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled.
Turn on the headlights, turn off the headlights.
Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled.
After step 5, the Safety Belt Warning Light will be turned on for 3 seconds.

Within 7 seconds of the safety belt warning light turning OFF, buckle then un-buckle the safety belt.
This will disable the Belt Minder if it is currently enabled, or enable the Belt Minder if it is currently disabled.

Confirmation of the disabling of the Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light 4 times per seconds for 3 seconds.
Confirmation of the enabling of the Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light 4 times per seconds for 3 seconds, followed by 3 seconds with the safety belt light off, then followed by flashing the safety belt light 4 times per second for 3 seconds again.
After confirmation, the deactivation/activation of the Belt Minder procedure is complete.

It works great. I did mine this afternoon.

I don't put my belt on until I get out of the parking garage at work because I have to reach way out of the truck for the card reader to open the gate, and that damn reminder chime was driving me nuts.

I turned off the drivers seat but left the passenger on for when my kid is there. My bad habit is to unbuckle as I am approaching my POD and the chime kept getting me. Know too that a temp off is available by clicking and unclicking the belt twice in sequence. this is what my wife uses on occasion.

This belt chime disable procedure is driving me crazy. I have followed the steps on pg. 118 of the manual about a million times with no result. What gives?
The procedure outlined by blitzkrieg is not the same as my manual. OK, I tried it anyway and still no results.
Is my truck cursed? Am I a moron? Don't answer that.
Seriously, could my California truck have some insidious defeat mechanism to keep me from disabling the darn thing? I am starting to get paranoid.

blitzkrieg, those are the instructions for the previous F-150 and other Fords. I already tried that procedure since I know it by heart after doing it to my two previous Lightnings and my Excursion. There are different instructions for our 2004's as I have seen them today after picking up my new truck with owner's manual.

I was able to disable mine following the manual, but then a few days later, it came back on??
weird...
I think it was key sensitive and when my wife drove it, that was when it started again.

Well bro, don't know what to tell you.

I went through the procedure listed on my '04 FX4 and it works like clockwork.

I used this procedure because I didn't know it was in the manual....

I tried the procedure listed above which I also saw in the manual. I tried it three times, and it didn't work any time. Anyone know what gives?

Thanks,
mikebaby

It does not disable the initial "Ding Ding Ding" when you first put in the key, but it does disable the alarm that comes on later if you continue to drive without the seat belt.

Mine disabled as advertised when using the owner's manual instructions. Then all of a sudden, it started doing it again....

Oh yeah, I forgot I had the PCM reflashed!
