Reverse Sensor Already Not Working

It worked yesterday, the day I picked it up. Today, nothing. The button shows that it is turned off and no matter what I do, I cannot get it turned on. Has anybody else had this happen?

Mine drive me nuts on our 01 expy, especially when towing a trailer. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise!

Aren't you supposed to turn it off when towing a trailer...???

Yah, but when you shift into D and then back into R it resets it every freaking time. Try to hook up a trailer OR back it into a campsite and you have to turn off the sensors about a half dozen times IF you are good. If your backing skills suck, you have to turn it off dozens of times. Fortunately my backing (and hooking up without a spotter) skills with a trailer are good.

I did not realize that it functioned so awkwardly. That is a terrible design...???

sho99fornow, I apologize in advance for being master of the obvious, but you do know that the reverse sensing system only beeps when you are within 6 feet or so of an object, right? it doesn't beep when you shift into R and there is nothing behind you. you probably knew that, but I just wanted to make sure.

Yeah, I knew that Brewmaster. It was working properly the day I picked it up but not now. The button lights up when you have it off and I cannot get the button light to go out. I even thought well maybe it still works and backed up close to an object but no beeping. I thought it was a pretty stupid option to have but my wife liked it since we have a 4 month old-she said there are tricycles, etc in our near future.

My dad's 2000 Navigator had the same problem where the sensors stopped working and it just shows OFF all the time. My guess is that maybe a sensor is bad, but he has never gotten it fixed. That is fine with me as the beeping always anoyed me when backing up trailers. This is why I didn't order this on my 2004 FX4 F150.

sho99fornow,

Sorry, I have no solutions for you. The manual says that if the light stays on that it may indicate a failure. I guess you already knew that.

For all others,

I just read the manual. It says that when you turn it off it stays off until 1) you turn it back on with the button, or 2) you recycle the ignition switch. Although I have not actually tested this, it sounds like maybe Ford listened to some previous complaints about it resetting each time it was put in reverse. I could see where it would get annoying the old way.

Scott

It started working again today but I am sure it will go out again before too long. I think it is a pretty good feature.

i like it as a feature, but it is pretty paranoid if you ask me. i mean, it starts beeping when i still have all kinds of room. i think it should be activated within 3 feet, not 6 ft or whatever it is now. definately a good option that i am glad i have.

I'm trying to decide whether or not to get this option on the truck I'm about to order. I tow a boat frequently and do not want to have to turn it off every time I go from drive to reverse. Can someone confirm for me that it needs to be deactivated after each shift to prevent beeping with a boat in tow? From what you say, scott99, it does not. It would be nice to know for sure.....

sho, I have the same issue. the light stays on, the sensor doesn't work. it started to work again for a few days, but now is out again. I'm taking it to the dealer this weekend to have that looked at as well as the blend door for the hvac control (that's shot too). when i find out the issue I'll post the resolve for you. I think it may end up being a wiring problem, possibly a bad sensor on the rear bumper.
