As long as I'm changing my order for the black interior, I was looking at other options again. From what I can tell the Scab Lariat comes with 27 gallon gas tank and the 35.7 gallon is optional. Other than the obvious advantage of being able to go farther, is there anything else to consider? For the price (it will probably add $85 or so) it seems like a no-brainer. Am I missing something?

 

I've been pondering the 35.7 gallon tank myself, but that's a killer on gas (probably looking at another $85 every time you want to fill up). So, as long as you're OK with that I'd say go for it.

 

It won't change the mileage though. Yes, it will cost more to fill the bigger tank but you will also fill it less often. Other than taking out a loan to buy a tank of gas I don't see that as an issue.

 

True enough...but that depends on if you're towing or putting things in the back regularly. If you are going to be towing or carrying anything then it'll run out as fast as the 27 gallon tank...

 

Man, where do you guys live?? Thats like $2.38 a gallon! I bought gas last Friday for $1.29 for 87 Oct (local stations having a gas war, one place had it for $1.19....looonnggg lines). It is selling at many places around here in the $1.42-$1.49 range for 87 Oct. Whew, I felt bit when I was paying in the $1.65 range a month or so ago. I feel for you! I am in MS and only about 150 miles from the GulfCoast and there is MUCH Oil production going on in LA and MS.

 

I pondered that also. Was gonna try and get an '04
but no icentives and rebates had to get an '03
very happy with it.

But, the tank i decided that with a wife, 2 kids and a dog
i would be stopping every couple of hours traveling anyway
so i was going to go with 27.

 

Gas out here in North CA is running about 1.89 to 2.05 for 87. This just "came down" from about 2.15 or so. They were saying that the big blackout back east and the pipeline troubles in AZ were driving up the price of gas out here. I heard this the other day; oil we pump out of the ground on the west coast is too "dirty", so it's the last resort of refiners to turn into gasoline. They want the good stuff from the mid-east and Venezuela.
That said, I crawled under a FX 4 with the 35.7 tank on it. That is one big tank! Lots of plastic. I think I will get mine with that option though.

 

Yip, CA here as well... we live in the most expensive place on the planet haha... people will soon begin to start charging for air.

I prefer the big tank. Numbe one if you've got a Lariat it just looks impressive to look down and see it say 535 miles (on the last one I filled) until empty. Usabilty wise, I couldn't ride for that long with out stopping.

To me the advantage is being able to pick and choose when and where to get fuel. It increases your chances of not having to pay toll road prices on fuel when traveling, and also can delay a fuel purchase an extra day or two on the normal drive. This can make a difference on price particularly on holidays. Just don't be in a hurry when trying to fill that monster, the first one I did I looked underneath to make sure it wasn't leaking since it was taking so long to fill.

 

LOL! i can just imagine someone looking perplexed as it takes forever to fill up the tank.

 

I wish I got the bigger tank on my lariat. The less I have to stop and refuel the better.

Yeah 85 bucks is a tad high, more like 75 (least out here, im at $2.09 right now) , i say get it.

 

I also ordered the 35.7 gal tank -- however it will decrease your gas mileage --- Mileage is based on the weight of the truck a full 35.7 gal tanks is a lot heavier than the 27 -- Like having 9 gals of milk in your truck -- should not make a big difference but it will be different

 

What if you're towing or carrying with a 27 gallon tank? Will it run out as fast as a 20 gallon tank then...hmmm. Yes, I'm a smart a** and I can't help it, please don't take offense I'm just messing with you.
