Splash Guards?

Hi all... I ordered the molded splash guards from the dealer to be installed on my Lariat Screw when it arrives. Does anyone know how these go on? Do they drill through the sheet metal (under the wheel lip molding) to install them? I might not want them installed if that's the case...I'm just afraid that it would be a spot for rust to start. Any comments based on previous experience with this would be appreciated. Is this an item most people do themselves? I'm afraid the dealer might do a sloppy job. Thanks people.

Splash Guards

I need to get some of the molded splash guards as well. On my '01 Screw, they attached via screws that you had to drill into the wheel molding/trim. I was a little concerned about that as well, but it was a non-issue after they were on. I'm not the most mechanically gifted individual in the world, but I put them on with no problems and they looked fine. Just curious, are the molded splash guards all black, or is it part black/part color coded? Finally, do you have the Ford part number for the fronts and rears?

They look all black to me. Not sure of the part #. Saw them on the Fordaccessories web site however.

Post Ditto

Ordered mud flaps for my FX4. Dealer called today... there in. I asked him if I could install them myself, and are they "No Drill"?
He says.... "You can install them yourself." They use an existing hole and require drilling one additional hole per guard. He did say it is easier to do with the truck on the lift. As for the drilled hole, I say put them on. I drove to work today and a manure spreader had spilled chicken manure across the road. No way to avoid it. Ended up along the passenger door panel. I can not imagine much that is more corrosive. Splash guards would have helped.

Best regards
P. S. How much is your dealer asking?
Here they are $55.00 per set, plus installation, plus tax.

The mudflaps have three holes and only two line up properly with the trucks predrilled holes (the top hole and the underside hole). The kit includes two metal screws and one plug per mud flap, therefore you would need to drill a hole to mount the flaps (the instructions state do not drill). The rear flap I installed had a noticeable gap between my molding and the mudflap curve (I could get around the drilling but this was my biggest complaint.. appearance and poor fit). The front flap hits the stock running board and is not as wide as the back mud flap. My tire's tread stick out beyond the flap in the front (stock 18" Goodyear tire) and I want the flap to deflect road debris over the entire tire tread width. This kit's Ford part# is /4L3Z16A550BAA

Jackslapp- Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you said, but it doesn't appear that you like the flaps at all. Is that right? If you didn't already have them, would you buy them now, knowing what you know now?

Yes, I didn't like them. I installed one myself (didn't drill though). I didn't like the fit so I removed it and took the package back to Ford. The flaps are all in one packaged kit. I'm looking/waiting on something different for my truck.

Sorry to hear that. You've swayed me to look elsewhere as well. When I find something and get them on my truck, I'll let you and others know about them. If you could do the same, personally I would greatly appreciate it. Happy Hunting!

here is a pic of some Ford ones installed. I would have to say they suffer from "gaposis".

Exclamation Thanks for the heads up, Jackslapp

I guess Ford flaps are off the list.

How do you like the factory running boards?

Any chance of your posting a picture?

Best regards,

i just installed the ford molded flaps on my xlt yesterday. I really like them, though it is probably because they are on a black truck. No drilling, had all 4 on in about 20 minutes.

Pro Fit Splashguards

Just curious if any of you guys have seen or bought this particuliar brand (Powerflow Ultimate Fit ) of splash guards. Personally I like the fact that they are partially color coded to your truck and partially black. If anybody has them, I'd like to hear what you think of them. The link:

Powerflow

I just called Powerflow and they said the do not have the splash guards available yet for the '04's and acccording to the lady I was speaking with, it might be 3 to 5 months before they would have them available for the public.

I'm honestly having 2nd thoughts about mud flaps. I took a good look at these new truck bodies and I think there's very little sheet metal exposed to any debris that would kick up from the tires, especially with running boards installed behind the front wheels. Behind the rear wheels, they fitted the sheet metal with a plastic protector of some sort as well and it seems that the sheet metal is so high from the wheel (on 4 X 4s anyway) that I don't think it's going to be subject to that much debris. I'm going to hold off putting on flaps...if I notice some nicks or tar, I'll address it then. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I don't necessarily think they add to the appearance..but for someone who likes the looks you might feel differently.
